Lovely walk/ trail for families or the less adventurous. I'd pick a crazy backcountry hike over a paved path any day, but I was still able to really enjoy this. There's a big enough variety in plants and scenery to keep it interesting. My mom can hardly walk on flat ground without being in pain, and she was able to do this ok.

Short, relatively intense trail with excellent views! The parking lot is really big and roads to the trailhead are extremely well marked. Trail is pretty wide and well maintained with regular distance markers. It gets pretty crowded because it's popular for trail running, so get there early or go on a weekday if possible. As far as technical hiking skill needed, this is pretty easy- just wear good shoes so you don't slip. This is a moderate because of the climb. Almost all of the elevation gain is within 1/2-3/4 of a mile and it's pretty brutal. Take breaks and enjoy the views- it's totally worth the climb!

Really excellent hike for beginners, families with young kids, or those who aren't in great shape. The trail is extremely well marked, pretty flat, and offers a good amount of trees for shade. We hiked between 10 and 12 and we had a nice breeze the whole way, too- made the August temps much more bearable. There are beautiful views of the nearby rock formations along the whole trail, and you really don't see the street or cars until you're right by the parking lot. This was a lifesaver when we want to Devil's Bridge and wanted to avoid the horrible crowds on the 4x4 road. Love this trail!

If I ever go back to Devil's Bridge I will definitely take this trail. It's pretty flat, has lots of trees for shade, and is extremely well marked. Also pretty empty- after waiting 40 minutes for a picture at the bridge and seeing the never-ending stream of people on the 4x4 road, I LOVED the solitude of this trail. Definitely worth the extra mile or so. There are also a few side trails (all well-marked) to bring you back to the 4x4 road if you decide this trail isn't for you or is taking too long.

The trail itself (once you get past the 4x4 road) isn't bad- relatively flat until you get to the final ascent and everything is well-maintained. I was shocked how good it looked, considering the heavy traffic it gets. The ascent is decently steep, but the rocks have been cut out so it's just like a big staircase, no technical climbing ability required. People of all ages and fitness levels were able to get up OK. My biggest issue is the sheer volume of people- we got to the bridge around 10am on a Sunday morning and we waited 40 minutes to take photos at the bridge. Yeah, you read that right- 40 minutes. I've been to Sedona a lot and hiked a good chunk of the trails, even on holiday weekends, and have never seen something like this (except maybe Slide Rock). If you just want the photo op, it's a nice trail and pretty enjoyable even with the crowds. But if you're looking for a true Sedona trail experience, either come on a weekday or try another trail.

Tip- If you want to get to the bridge but don't want to walk the (kind of ugly) 4x4 road, use the Chuckwagon trail. It adds about 1.5 miles extra but it's pretty empty, has nice views, and is equally as flat so it's not challenging. We also had a nice breeze the whole time.

LOVED this hike! Arrived around 6:30am on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, although when we were heading back around 8 both the trail and the lake were starting to fill up. Seriously beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains the whole way, with some outlets to walk down to the water. There was a rattlesnake and a family of javelinas when we were there, so keep an eye out for wildlife and stay aware. Heads up (and my reason for 4 stars)- the lake is popular for boating and jetskis. If you're looking for a relaxing, quiet hike either go really early or pick another trail.

Like others have said, this is a classic Arizona trail and is popular among locals and tourists- there are even resorts nearby that offer tours to their guests. The trail is well maintained and clearly marked. It gives you a decent workout, but isn't overly strenuous; my dad and great uncle are both in their 60s and did just fine. It's really popular for running, so be aware that this will be crowded most of the time.
