Heston Williams reviewed Heart Lake Trail

This is a decent trail for someone who just wants the cardio workout. Three stars not because this one is bad, but because there are many trails in this area that you should hike before this one.

Constant uphill grade, which is great. Lake was very green wish suspended sediment. Wind was quite strong. Fall colors were great. Plenty of really good water for the first 2.5 miles. Be sure to carry water after mile ~3.7 - you do not want to drink whatever is coming out of that lake unless you're forced to.

I cant recommend Middle Fork highly enough over this trail. Lost Lake is another local great.

I hiked this trail CCW from 11-13 Sept 2018.

Flew into DEN and rented a car - beautiful drive, but budget 4 hours as an absolute minimum. Overnight parking is very limited at the TH, so unless you get there very early in the morning, you'll likely have to take a shuttle from town and pay for parking.

I left the TH at 1.28p on the 11th, and camped near mile 6.2 on this map. Plenty of h20 heading toward buckskin, but it got a little thin on the way down until you reach the meadows. Excellent view on buckskin, but it was quite windy, so I didnt hang out long.

After trail rider pass there is a little water at a pond, nothing else until ~ mile 11.7.

    Beautiful waterfall near mile 13.5.

Camped near mile 15. Sites near water are nearly impossible to find. I just took what I could get & camped on a slight angle, then hiked several hundred yards to water.

Frigid Air pass was so beautiful in the early morning light. Hiked 3.5 hours without seeing another person.

Everywhere I read said no water between FA and Maroon passes - thats not true. I passed several great streams to get water. Beautiful basin.

Maroon pass took me about 6 minutes to climb. Literally. All of these passes with exception of Buckskin LOOK a lot taller than they actually are.

Lots of great campsites between MP and the TH. Water between MP and ~mile 21 is sparse.

One of my favorite trails. Have fun! :D

Heston Williams reviewed Wheeler Peak via Williams Lake Trail

As of today, the trail is entirely clear - no snow. Please be sure to stay on established and current trails.

The last 1.5 miles gains altitude quite rapidly. It’s a steep climb, and trekking or ski poles are definitely recommended.

    No water above Williams lake.

This was my most challenging NM hike completed due to the steepness. Well worth the view though!

Compared to other hikes in Glacier, this one is just ok. I mean, it's beautiful, but if you have a capable group of hikers, then I'd look elsewhere for a challenge.

This is a great hike for the whole family. Long enough to feel like you've really done something, but not so long as to become strenuous. There are no treacherous areas, and wildlife is abundant. We've taken my niece on it twice; once when she was 7 and again at age 9, and she had a blast.

Be sure to take a bottle of water & stay hydrated! :D

This is the single most impactful trail I've ever experienced. The JMT, when done it its 211 mile entirety, will yield lifelong cherished memories. Its not easy, and you must do months of preparation. Its beauty is absolutely breathtaking. I cannot recommend this trail highly enough. Six stars.

Another easy trail in Meridian, but a great one for a brief getaway into the brush. Well marked. Family and dog friendly.

Depends on what you're looking for - If you're looking for an actual hike, this is more of a casual stroll with an 8' wide concrete pathway through the city. If you're wanting to just put some miles on (foot or bike) then this is a great way to do it. We always stay on the western side of FW between Panther Island and the FW Zoo area and we've always been safe. The trail is well kept, mown and clean. FW does a great job with its maintenance. Plenty of restaurants along the way if you get hungry, or want to make a mini "destination hike" ;)

Im more of a wilderness backpacker, but for what it is, the Trinity River Trail is pretty nice. Family friendly.

Lovely hike and a beautiful valley once you get out of the climbing section. Plenty of water, so no need to carry a lot of it. Will definitely return!

Decent little trail to go see the confluence of the Rio and Red. Take a filter to pick up water at the bottom! Water fountains and restrooms at the top.

    Leave No Trace!
