Third time in as many years. Still good. Take the shuttle from Ned. The only way IMO. See my picture comment on the trail marker where the trail splits and you must go left to LL.

My passion is wildflowers. I want to do this hike so I read the reviews and looked at the photos this morning. Sounds like to the Poop Fairy needs to visit The Gulch. Don't know who the Poop Fairy is? Look At this: https://youtu.be/YmxAOaEPXAw

I did the hike today. Here is my honest review: A pleasant drive away from Boulder's heat through interesting geology. Ample parking. The trail is a nice walk along the creek, mostly shaded with a good amount of wildflowers, and cool breezes which make it nearly perfect temp. Dogs are allowed so there is lingering evidence, sadly. The trail is rocky and narrow at times and the return trip deceptively challenging because it is largely uphill so it can easily qualify as a hike, not a walk. Fishing (trout) and camping look great so you could make it more than a day trip if you wanted. Not too crowded. I will definitely come back for more! I wouldn't rec for snowshoe; too rocky and narrow.

Excellent hike! I am not young or in terrific shape but I could make it so I will rate it easy-moderate if you are in good shape. My ankles felt it on the way down which I did a lot faster than the climb up. I enjoyed the birds and wildflowers as well as the views. I was dropped off at the trailhead, went to the top, and walked back out all the way back to Broadway. That round trip took approximately 4+ hours with many stops to take pictures and look at flowers. I did out and back although you can return via Sanitas Trail or East Ridge which looked a bit dodgy to me. The trail is dry and well-maintained and there are no dogs which I am sorry to say, I really enjoyed for a change. Do it, you won't regret it.

Helen Wood reviewed Tungsten and Kinnickinnick Loop at Mud Lake

Pristinely managed with a very good array of wildflowers. I went yesterday via RTD from Boulder and due to construction in Boulder Cyn, I got a free tour of the Peak to Peak Hwy going to Ned via Lyons. I entered the park via the elementary school in Ned onto the Kinickinick Trail and turned left onto Tungsten and left again onto the Caribou connector. It was stunning and easy enough. I circled back via the Lake and exited on the intersection of Hwy 72 and Hwy 128 which I don't think is a designated exit trail but well-worn anyway. Easy walk back to Ned via the Community Center. This is a terrific no-car day trip; easy and well-maintained trails, very good wildflower viewing, and only a few friendly people to encounter. Can't wait ti go back and do the Caribou Trail. I got a lot out of an RTD day pass!
