Great little trail just outside the city. We did ~5.8 miles in ~2.25 hours connecting different trails. Some flat, some paved, some rooty, some rocky, a few small hills for a little more challenge in some places. Ticks are definitely present now (mid-June). Lots of shade on most trails, but quite a bit of sun exposure too. Bring plenty of water in the summer heat. Saw lots of butterflies and dragonfly-like things, and one little bitty harmless snake off the path. The observation deck had some nice purple and orange wildflowers as well. Appreciated no traffic sounds. Will definitely come back.

Brother and I have done ~4 and 5-mile stretches of this trail a few times. It's a nice, well-maintained trail, though the signage is less than helpful in some places. Small variety of features to see. We saw a nice mushroom in a more lush part of the trail and cacti with wildflowers in a rockier part of the trail. (Photos uploaded.) Want to spend more time with it and log more miles on it.

We planned 5.4 miles based on this app but ended up at 8.25 miles. It was a fun hike, but the signage is confusing in some places so we ended up having to backtrack quite a bit to get back on the correct trail. It is volunteer maintained, so it hasn't quite recovered from a lot of the heavy rain and flooding recently, but overall not too bad. Bug spray is still a must all the way in late September. Lots of shade cover throughout. Watch out for the cyclists on the trail.

After several strenuous days hiking in the mountains in SLC, this was a wonderfully chill little hike with beautiful vistas. I went into the park around 5:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Temperature was warm, but not too hot - low '80s, pack plenty of water still - it's the desert, folks. It's $15 to get into the park and they do take cards. I asked if there was anything I should know, and he suggested I try the Big Horn Lookout trail first as it would be less crowded while everyone was hiking the two main trails. When I reached Big Horn Lookout it literally took my breath away. I was able to hit a few more lookout points - Rim was one of them, and a little wandering on the West Rim Trail. The hiking is easy, the park rangers do a fantastic job with the stacked rock markers to make it easy to get around, it's a pretty stress-free hike! Birds, beetles and tiny lizards who pose for photos. I wandered around for about 2.5 hours pushing the limits of sunset, and ended up driving in the pitch black through the unlit canyons on the way out and back to Moab.

This is a challenging hike if you're not accustomed to the altitude and steep uphill climbs for a long stretch, but it's beautiful every step of the way. The trail was damp after having rained overnight and into the morning, but totally fine for hiking. Temperature was cool in mid-September, but didn't need a jacket for long once you get to huffing and puffing up the trail. I hoofed it out of there at end-of-day to beat sundown - I would not want to hike back down that trail after dark, too much visibility and attention required. Will definitely do this again next time I'm in the area.
