This is a nice state park, which is very close to Ormond Beach. Here, many trails fan out, which I hiked most of them. The main attraction of this park is the Tomoka River, which dumps into the Halifax. In addition, a visitor center, campground, and interpretive trail also exist. I would not want to camp in FL (the heat and bugs), but nevertheless, it is a nice campground. From here, two trails connect to Ormond: the service maintenance road and the extended sidewalk. In addition, the Tomoka bridge provides a place to fish and look for manatees.

This is an excellent beginner trail, with great views and interpretive signs along the way. My mom used to take me out here all the time when I was younger to educate me about the forest. I enjoyed those times, but now the interpretive plaques are in disrepair. Still, the trail is enjoyable, and you can see into Linville and north. In addition, an unofficial trail spurs off from the left and goes north to Eseola and Roseboro Rd.

Finally did this one after being near it for 15 years. I hiked it to just explore the area and discover Storyteller's Rock. It is very normal to Cragway, which is a nice logging road. Beyond Cragway, the trail becomes steeper and more adventurous. Four campsites are also situated along that valley, which can often accommodate up to three tents, and have rigging set up for bear bags. Storyteller's Rock is a great outcrop of the Boone Bowl, and a nice scramble after a hike. This is a great backcountry trail to start beginners off in Grandfather Mountain.

I was in Florida preparing for a wedding I was going to. My whole family was there, and we had a great time. Today, people were getting all prettied up, and the men wanted something to do. Why not have an adventure? So we loaded our bikes- the five of us- and rode Graham Swamp. We parked along Old Kings Rd. at the Lehigh Trail. After riding one of the straightest paths, we made it to the trailhead. Something is different with these trails than my mountain bike parks back home. Sand, shells, and palm trees. The seashells are awesome- you can take your pick and fill your pack with shells. The mountain bike loop is 7 miles long, with lots of wooden features to push the limits on. The vertical wooden bridge- AAHHH!!! This is a fun but adventurous bike park.

This is a nice hiking trail. Big Wilson Creek is in Grayson Highlands state park, and it was raging due to the recent rains when I hiked it. On Aug. 10, I hiked the Wilson trail, seeing the waterfalls along Big Wilson Creek. On Aug. 11, I trail ran Wilburn Branch, seeing a more mellow side to this creek. I did not fish, but I explored the trails. I did not do the Big Wilson Creek Horse trail because I feared the river crossing and the mud. Anyway, this is a nice river, with good waterfalls and rapids.

Bearpen trail has two sides. It has the awesome view side and the Wilderness mud side. This trail was nice at the views. Nice views with fog and marsh made the trail eerie. It was not well marked. It was a true adventure as there were no people at all. Once I entered the wilderness though, the trail condition deteriorated. Past Big Wilson Creek Trail, it was very muddy from years of horse use. After 1.5 miles of hiking in the mud, I finally reached 1st peak trail. My advice... I would bring a horse when entering Little Wilson Creek Wilderness. Anyway, this trail was part of my 20-mile day hike that I really enjoyed. What an adventure.

This trail shows how much damage years of horse use can do. I was hiking in the Little Wilson Creek Wilderness as part of my 20 mile hike. First Peak was not impressive. After going the wrong way after Bearpen, I turned around and got my bearings. The trail was super muddy the WHOLE way, with bogs and water everywhere. I had to bushwack around the trail at times to not get muddy. It got a little better when I exited the wilderness. At Stone Mountain, the views were obscured by the fog. The fog made the hike eerie, but I was glad not to have mud anymore. When I arrived at scales, my shoes and socks were taken off to dry. Its a nice hike to Stone Mtn and 3rd peak, but DO NOT GO BEYOND THERE UNLESS YOU ARE ON HORSEBACK!!! The trail is just too muddy for foot travel. As of August 10, 2013.

An awesome trail for sure. Its been many years since I camped here and I really want to go back! This trail was awesome, passing over 3 waterfalls. Falls Creek Falls was the best, with a huge vertical drop. And don't forget to mention the swinging bridges- they are fun to cross and add to the experience. The park has many things to offer- from swimming, tubing, hiking, biking, and camping. A very nice place, with many waterfalls nearby also!

A very nice trail. Its paved all the way to the falls, and I only did that portion. Lots of people (although not as bad as Clingmans). The falls were nice, with multiple tiers seen. The pavement is starting to deteriorate some, so maybe the park can fix up the trail. If you continue past the falls, it goes to Cove Mtn. and eventually Gatlinburg. This hike is very nice for the average tourist wanting to stretch their legs.

Nice trail also. As for Devil's Courthouse, I stopped only at the overlook (maybe hiked it) its been long ago. As for Black Balsam, it was an excellent hike. I went with a retreat group, and we had a good time. At the summit, the views were spectacular, we could see for miles. We were winded by the altitude, but hikes are always fun. We tried to yell for another group at Sams Knob, but they could not hear us from the Balsam.

This was another easy hike I did at the Rockies. It has been many years, but the visit was very nice. This was a fun loop hike, with wildlife and many people. This lake did not have as much ice as Bear Lake. Afterwords, I visited the Moraine Museum, and saw the history of this park. I really enjoyed this place. It would be great to go back when Trail Ridge Rd is open.

Its been many years since my Rocky Mtns visit, but the park was very nice. Trail Ridge Rd. was closed, so I focused my attention to the Bear Lake area. We also had lots of family at Estes Park, so this hike was a huge family outing. We only walked around the lake. Since this was a family day, Flattop Mtn was not in the agenda. The lake was cool, with some ice and snow. A cool national park that I would love to come back to.

It has been a few years, but I enjoyed my visit to the Rockies. Trail Ridge Road was closed, so I was more in the Bear Lake region. This was one of my hikes, and the waterfall was nice. Lots of people, though. Many people out here for a nice day in the woods. It was also a great experience hiking in snow-covered trails since a snowstorm came by a week before my arrival.

Navigator B reviewed Newfound Gap & Clingmans Dome: Great Smoky Mountains National Park

When I did this adventure, the roads and paved trail were completely choked with traffic. Leaving Cherokee, I went through congestion and many people. Near the Clingman's Dome parking, there was a continuous traffic jam with people parked along the road. The trail looked like it was supposed to be in an amusement park! Very busy. But... I am not surprised. On a great fall weekend like this, the Smokies are bound to get busy. At the top of the dome, the views were SPECTACULAR, with panoramic vistas all around. Taking the bypass trail back, it was nearly devoid of people! Then, I drove to Gatlinburg and faced even more rush hour traffic. I also found a wreck off Clingman's Dome Road. A car careened off the bank while another one smashed into the cliff. Is it a testimony that safe driving certainly makes a difference.

This was many years ago, but I remember making this hike. It is very popular, with lots of crowds and people! I only did the paved portion because we were headed to Townsend to camp. The waterfall was great, with multiple tiers. The trail... it is in need of being repaved, but it is still a trail. If you keep going, you will reach Cove Mountain, and Sugerlands Visitor Center.
