Breathtaking October hike. Needed to give dogs a boost over sheer climb about half way in.

We did this hike December 2017. This is a fantastic hike! Did about four miles in four hours. Lots of elevation gain and very diverse trail with lots of rocks and boulders to navigate— Jaw dropping views.. It is tricky to find the beginning of this trail. The trailhead is not marked but is behind the last picnic area near the site built restrooms and to the right. Also, towards the beginning of the hike, it is easy to lose the trail while climbing large boulders. Don’t worry; once you get over that, the trail is otherwise pretty well marked (At least up to 2 miles in). There are lots of Cairns on the trail up to that point. Also while I do not work for all trails, I will say that my All trails pro version helped us to stay on the trail. Recommend good shoes with ankle support and walking sticks. This was a great trail for the family! One of the best we have done in southern NM

Great hike in November 2017. Would definitely be concerned about the heat if doing this in the summer. Little shade. Water for dogs (and us) was important. Lots of rolling hills, very rocky trail. Good views. Took 11 year old and we made it 6 miles round trip. Very enjoyable hike.

Great trail. Remote; no people anywhere! Steep ascent and good shade in spots.

I brought my family to hike this trail today. The road leading up to where I think the trail is located is very primitive, and there is no signage indicating where the trail begins. The area is beautiful but I do not think it is ready for public use due to the lack of signage and any visible trail maintenance.

I note that a BLM official has contributed to the posts on this trail and I would suggest to him or her that signage be installed so that trails can be identified and that the trails themselves be marked and maintained somewhat so that way they can be followed and hikers do not get lost.

This is A great trail for a hike with the kids and dogs. Hiking (walking) through a lot of silt but otherwise very easy to do. We did this hike in January and the temperature was perfect. Probably would be difficult in Midsummer. Interesting rock features to view.

Drove all the way here and the trail is closed. Disappointing waste of time.

Agree with Brianna about difficulty in determining whether I am reviewing the correct trail as there is a network of trails in this area, but...

Trial is easy access from main road to Placitas. Winds through mid size piñon/juniper with elevation gain. Relatively easy hike and perfect for a family walk at the end of the day. Would be tough mid- day on hot days. Otherwise a wonderful walk.
