Completed this trail a few weeks ago. We hiked from the trail-head, past the flag, to the towers on the next peak over. It was a pretty steep trail, but definitely survivable. Great views of downtown and Mexico. I would do this hike again.

This is my second review for this trail. I went again this past weekend. My husband and I hiked up around 4am and watched the sunrise. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever witnessed! You can watch the video here: http://youtu.be/eVt4xsg4Vds

This past weekend we hiked this trail from the Garnet Peak Trailhead off Sunrise Hwy. It was a good choice for night hiking because we were just trying to get to the top quickly and avoid nocturnal wildlife. For day hikes however, I'd actually recommend starting the hike from the Penny Pines parking lot and heading south via the PCT. The view up that way is beautiful! Of course the peak is beautiful too. I love this trail. It's my favorite one in Southern California.

GREAT HIKE! I had so much fun exploring all of the mud caves! We went for a day trip from San Diego and had so much fun that we're going back for an overnight camping trip in a few weeks. I definitely recommend a head lamp over a flashlight as there's times where you're crawling on all-fours. We drove out in our Honda Civic and somehow it made it! The dirt roads are fairly compacted but there were a few loose spots. We just drove slow and tried to avoid loose dirt. Crawling through caves left me feeling a little claustrophobic at first, but I adjusted quickly and love every second of it! I'd recommend doing your research because you head out there to map out where each cave is.

Good local hike. Great view at the top. The only downside is that it is veryyy busy! The parking lot was full when I went and there were plenty of cars parked along the side of the road. I tried running up the trail but there were too many hikers to easily run without weaving through people.
