For the amount of effort required this hike is hard to beat. I'd love to get back and do the full ridge traverse when I have more time.

This trail offers a nice way to avoid the crowds in Icicle Creek Canyon. The later sections of the trail could use some brush control so likely not a good choice for a wet day (like mine was).

Decent trail. If you continue past mile ~5 (the junction with the trail to frosty pass) it gets very overgrown. There is an AWESOME campsite surrounded by the river on 3 sides after the second bridge, right before the junction mentioned above.

Not the best trail for runnning. The lower section is great but up higher the trail is really rocky in points that make it easy to twist and ankle or trip...and I would never try running here on the weekend, way too many people. I only saw 1 person the whole time starting at 5 am on a cloudy day

A bit crowded but nice views and lakes. Do yourself a favor and go scramble Gothic & Del Campo peaks, they are well worth the extra effort. They are not terribly difficult (if you have scrambled before).

This trail is more or less a duplicate of the one called 'Vesper Peak'. Continue past Headlee pass to scramble Vesper and/or Sperry peaks.

Spectacular setting once you crest Ingalls pass. It's a bummer the road is closed 1 mi from the trailhead (no good reason), but maybe it keeps (some of) the crowds away. Headlight basin is a spectacular spot to camp as well (as many know).

Gabe O'Leary reviewed Mason Lake via Ira Spring Memorial Trail

If you want to make it a loop I would go up the old trail and down the Ira Springs trail. Look for a faint turn off to the left 20 mins into the hike. This trail is rougher with a bit of deadfall & scrambly sections. I managed to do it with my 70 & 65 year old parents who are fit but don't spend much time in the mountains. This section of the trail is fun & much less crowded than the Ira Spring trail so I do recommend if you want to make things a bit more 'adventurous'. Nice Alpine lake & Awesome views of Rainier if it's nice out.

Low key but it has tons of potential. The weather wasn't ideal for us but the hike was sweet nonetheless. The few glimpses between the clouds to the valleys and coastline down below made it worthwhile. It was even raining on us but with trail runners most of the trail wasn't terribly treacherous. It would be cool to do it on a dry day as you could proceed past the end of the trail to get even better views.
