gregg shaff reviewed South Fork Trail to Islip saddle

Agree that this hike is moderate. when I uploaded, it didn't provide that option, and it defaulted to difficult.

Spectacular views for a million (or so) miles. Notch 2 & 3 are amazing. It was a Saturday, in June, so there were a LOT of people. This is NOT a hike for solitude, but well worth the views. It is beyond easy. Many people were in flip-flops although I would not walk this trail in those. I'm going back for sure to explore the rest of Round Valley. There was a bear spotted in the meadow, but was not threatening. Probably used to this many people in his/her neighborhood.

gregg shaff reviewed Mount Whitney Trail to Lone Pine Lake

The hike to Lone Pine Lake is about as far as you can hike out of Whitney Portal without a permit for the Whitney Zone. The hike is mostly sunbathed and hot. It climbs relentlessly in the heat. However, the endpoint of Lone Pine Lake is absolutely beautiful. The lake is relatively small and the granite faces above it are towering.

gregg shaff reviewed Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes Trail

This is a great place to experience sand dunes. Parking lot is right on the road and very close to Stovepipe Wells (food/water, etc). Park and start walking right into the dunes. They cover a vast expanse and even with large crowds, you can find solitude and untracked sand all over. The highest dune is not too far a hike, but it'll take some time since walking in sand can be slow, especially when climbing steep inclines.

gregg shaff reviewed Buckhart Trail to Cooper Canyon Falls

The parking area for this trail is at the end of the Buckhorn campground at: 34 20 51.06, -117 54 39.85. you can easily pass up the entrance when on Hwy 2. The hike is not difficult at all. However, with kids, be sure to help them down from the trail to the falls area as it is very steep. There are ropes to help, but they are better used to get out. The falls when we went weren't really running as they were trickling. But it was beautiful and serene.
