The climb was steep but great exercise. Although a cloudy day the view at the lake was beautiful. Saw a group of 29 dall sheep high up on the ridge west of the lake. Wildflowers along the trail included lots and lots of goatsbeard and cow parsnip with some monkshead. Although it had rained a lot recently the trail was only slick in a few spots.

We hiked from Glacier Spit to the lake and then south on the Saddle Trail - drop off and pickup easily arranged with Mako Water Taxi in Homer. We had spectacular warm sunny weather to enjoy the forest hike and view of the glacier across the iceberg-littered lake. Very easy trail with lots of bear sign but no bears. Great wildflowers including monkhead and red columbine.

Gary Smith reviewed Lost Dog Wash Trail to Ringtail Trail Loop

An okay trail with typical Sonoran desert scenery. Nice morning exercise. No flowers - except for ocotillos - because of the drought. Probably pretty in a more typical spring. As shown on the map the loop (clockwise) is actually Lost Dog Trail to Old Jeep Trail to Ringtail Trail to Sunrise Trail.

Lots of people by mid-day but it was a Sunday. Definitely worth it. Finding "THE" trail above the falls to the lake is tough, and it's much steeper and muddy but the lake is gorgeous to see. We enjoyed the journey as much as the destination. Abundant and diverse wildflowers; magenta paintbrush and kings crown are the highlights along with the usuals. Cute pikas in the scree if you wait quietly. Don't miss lower falls obscured in trees at trailhead: Cross over the water diversion tunnel and follow footpath upstream for 50 yards.

Nice mountain views and interesting historical exhibits at the summit. Lots of quantity and variety of wildflowers especially if you get out into the meadows and hike the Black Powder Pass trail from the summit.
