The first 2 miles of the trail is fairly flat until you reach the Cedar Grove. This is a good place to stop for a break before heading up to the waterfall. On the hillside above the Cedar Grove I found a lot of edible Coral mushrooms and along Liberty Creek I found some Amanitas. The most interesting thing I saw along the trail was a Great Gray Owl.

A very nice trail with some wonderful views of Mt. Spokane and the city of Spokane.Spring is the best time to hike the trail because of all the different wildflowers.Today the trail was a little muddy is places due to all the rain we have been getting the past few weeks.

This is the year of the Bear Grass. It is the best I have ever seen at Mt. Spokane State Park and I have been hiking the mountain for over 30 years.Today I also saw Indian Paintbrush,Phlox, Groundsel,Mountain Bluebells and a couple different kinds of mushrooms. I also saw a small patch of snow on the north side of the mountain.

it is the end of June and there is still snow on Mt. Spokane. This is the latest I have ever seen snow on the mountain. The road to the summit and campground is still closed.I did find some Morel mushrooms and there were a lot of flowers in bloom. The creek coming down the mountain was running very high. The best things I found to photograph was a Snowbank False Morel and some Fairy Slipper Orchids.I plan to go back in a couple of weeks to see if I can find more wildflowers to photograph.

I recently got myself a Pentax digital camera and decided that a trip to Iller Creek would be a good place to give it a test run. I was able to photograph some False Morel mushrooms along with some regular Morels and the photos turned out very well. It was a very enjoyable day to be in the woods except for the fact that the trail along the creek was very muddy in places.

Our trip into the Dishman Hills was very enjoyable. We saw some Glacier Lilies,Yellow Bells,Star Flowers,Balsamroot, a few Morel and False Morel mushrooms. Not many people on the trail as it looked like rain most of the day.The view from Eagle Peak was great and we were able to get a nice clear view of Mt. Spokane.

It isn't often you are able to hike the Dishman Hills in Febuary and not find any snow or ice on the trails. The temperture was near 50 degrees and it was mostly sunny.I saw a half dozen Chickadees, some Robins and a Flicker but no people. As I write this review it is a week later and Winter has come back to the Spokane area with cold tempertures and over a foot of snow in the last couple of days.It looks like I won't be hiking in the hills for at least a couple of weeks or until most of the snow melts.

This was a great year for mushrooms, especially at Iller Creek. Each time I hiked the area I found different things to see and to photograph. This will probably be my last time this year until next Spring. I found a some interesting mushrooms this time including Bear's Head and Wood Ear's.

As I was walking along one of the trails looking down for mushrooms I came around a bend in the trail and saw a huge moose about 50 yards in front of me.When he saw me to took off down the trail in the opposite direction about as fast as he could run.He was long gone before he had any chance to get a photo.I was able to get some good Fall color photos and some wonderful mushroom photos. It was a beautiful day to be in the woods with sunny weather and tempertures in the low 70's.

Today was a beautiful day to be hiking on Mt. Spokane. The weather was great with tempertures in the mid 70's and hardly a cloud in the sky.I was up there looking for Fall mushrooms and was able to find a wide variety-Puffs Balls,Corals,Russulas and Mica Caps just to name a few.A couple of the trails had some damage caused by some heavy rain a couple of weeks ago but the rain did bring out a lot of fungi.

This morning I went out looking for Fall color and mushrooms to photograph.I was trying to get a good photograph of some Kinnickinnick berries when I looked up to find a deer looking back at me from about 50 yards away. I didn't find much in the way of Fall color and only found one Horse mushroom but it was still a nice time to be in the woods with tempertures in the 60's.

The trail switchbacks through heavily forested slopes until you reach an area that burned in 1988. Over 20,000 acres were burned when a lightning caused fire engulfed White Mountain and Sherman Peak. From Sherman Peak you will have anexcellent view of the entire Kettle Range.

I spent Saturday morning(June 26th) hiking on Mt. Spokane.I saw hillsides covered in lupine, yarrow and bear grass plus I found some yellow coral mushrooms. The best part of the day came just after I stopped for lunch. I took a short walk along the creek looking for mushrooms and hit the mother lode when I came upon an old log covered in about 100 Mica Top mushrooms. It was an awesome sight!!!
