Frank Bursinger reviewed Sheep Lake and Sourdough Gap Trail

Trailhead is very easy to find, just past the restroom at end of parking lot. Very nice hike, no bugs in September. Can be a bit dusty if no rain recently and you are following hikers. Suggest hiking past the gap towards Crystal Lake for views of Mt Ranier. Sheep Lake is very picturesque and a great short hike.

Hiked this in August for a short afternoon hike. Still a wildflower or two. Had the trail all to myself. Not really any good spots to sit near the waterfall, but very pretty and refreshing.

We hiked this after hiking Hellhole Canyon and although this is easy, the up close opportunity to walk within feet of big horn sheep was the highlight of the hikes.

Very fun, nothing to add that hasn't been said other than Hole in the Rock Rd is approx. 27 miles one-way to the trailhead with a fair amount of washboard.

Very pretty lakes, road does require 4WD in just a couple spots as you approach the lakes. Do not expect to be alone here, at least during the summer months. Many people fishing, camping, driving up in their rented Jeeps.

My girls (17 & 19) were so-so on this hike when we began. We had hiked the day before and they were a bit tired (wimps). Once they got a glimpse of the falls, their attitudes changed and were excited to get closer. The 17 year old even wanted to run the last bit, so we did. They now talk about the hike as one of the highlights of our trip. Four stars only because of the mosquitos.

The downside to this hike is that you basically hike from one road to another and at either end there is no shade or bench, just a dirt parking area. The hike itself is beautiful and the heat in July is wonderful. I would do it again though as there aren't many hikes here in the 12 - 16 mile range.

Tried this last July, got lost twice and finally had to abandon the effort. Obviously not a popular hike since there are no reviews. I hope to try again in a couple months. Please post if you have information on this hike. Thank you, Frank
