This was a delightful hike! I agree, would rank this as moderate due to some steep, ongoing climbs. The bugs were present but not awful for us at the lake. Trailhead was easily accessible as well.

One of my favorite trails in the Great Burn! I love walking through the giant cedar groves. You’ll earn it as you climb to Hub Lake in the second mile - a good deal of incline. But lots of huckleberries if you time it right! Bugs were present at the lake but the breeze and some bug spray mostly kept them at bay. Don’t miss out on this one!

Can't say enough great things about this trail. Power through the switchbacks for one of the most rewarding short hikes along the Parkway. And each time you rest, the view gets better and better. Be prepared for lots of wind!

Most definitely worth a stop if you're in the region! A short walk takes you very close to these very dramatic Falls.

A great trail for my two siblings and my parents in their late 50s. Be advised on a sunny day you're very exposed. Parking wasn't an issue on a late August Wednesday around 10 am. Be sure to scramble to the base of the towering waterfalls. You won't regret it!

Hiked on July 4. I would rate it easy to moderate. The hike along the state line trail is great. There is a bit of a decline to get down to the lakes (which you then climb back up). Plenty of huckleberry bushes along the state line trail. The access road is in fair shape. Suitable for most if not all vehicles. Took about an hour once off I-90 to get to the trailhead.

Very scenic and a nice day hike!

A great, not too crowded hike with river access and a view of Mount of the Holy Cross. I would recommend a high clearance vehicle for the rocky road to the trailhead. Before crossing the creek, the meadow/marshy areas had a lot of mosquitoes. Not too far after the bridge is a steep spur trail down the the creek. On a hot day that was very rewarding. The aspens after the bridge were incredible. Would be great in fall. Surprise Lake is really more of a glorified pond that is quite marshy.

A fantastic day hike in the Bitterroot. The first 1/4 mile or so is along a road. Most of the hike is along the creek. It was nice that probably 2/3 of it is shaded. Great wildflower. Lots of lupine and beargrass and a few paintbrush. The views at the first large falls are great. Be sure to keep going past it for the second Falls.

A fantastic hike to escape the city. Be advised parking is limited and the first quarter to half mile is walking down (and then back up) a very sunny asphalt road. But once you're down by the creek, it almost feels like a rainforest.
