Took a quick hike in the Nu’uanu Valley. Definitely a rooty and slippery hike, but a beautiful forest hike which included crossing Nu’uanu Stream and then hike down to the waterfall and around. Circular trail has a branch which leads to a 3 mike trail to Manoa Falls. That was not in the plans for today...especially when it started raining and getting dark. Maybe another time. Still in shock someone left a dirt diaper behind for the trail cleanup crew. Gross!

Ruins are an interesting bit of history and easy to to get to, but inding the falls is a bit tougher. Take the main trail until it appears to end. Step over logs and weave through until trail gets better. You will hear the water fall. Keep going and you will begin to descend to the stream. Cross steam and look for red ribbons to take you on an easier path around and down to base of large falls.

    Makapu’u

I did a one-way hike today. Had planned on going to the Makapu’u puka hole and back, but when I finally got there I realized I was relatively close to the ridge with “Lovers Leap,” so I decided to combine them and kill two trails in one. I made up to the upper ridge and all the antennas, got to see a guy set up his hang glider (I always wondered how they got there gear up the hill- they drove!) that’s where I came across the group from Switzerland who had walked up the fire road.

As a bonus, I got an easy trek down on a fire road vice the sketchy goat trails I would have had to go back on in the hot sun. Thanks to Lyft I made it back to my car safe and sound.

Boy are there a lot of no hikers and no trespassing signs now....
