Erin Sheridan reviewed High Peaks Condor Gulch Trail

Did this hike in the direction shown on All Trails and I thought it was nice for this time of year (Oct). Not too hot in Condor and i liked the direction we took up the steps and down the switchbacks. Views were amazing. Fun times with the carved steps and rails with my 5-year old. Saw two tarantulas and three condors. Nice day.

An amazing day hike. Did it counter clockwise and I’m so glad I did. The final ascent up to the divide was steep and narrow, and the descent down to Lake Solitude seemed like never ending switchback on talus. Saw a black bear and two moose. A beautiful day.

Erin Sheridan reviewed Yellowstone River Picnic Area Loop Trail

There are two trails leading away from the parking lot. The official trail with the signpost is a gradual climb to the canyon edge. The unmarked trail next to the bathroom climbs steeply to the edge. Along the canyon is a beautiful hike. I had my 5 year old along for the hike and only felt compelled to hold her hand a couple of times where it was steep off to the right. At the Specimen Ridge trailhead (which is a short way off the road) there is an unmarked trail which runs all the way back to the parking area so you don’t have to hike on the road itself. Saw bison. Bring water. Its a short hike but dry and hot with little shade.

A great hike. Well maintained and mostly clear trail. Easy to walk and maintain a good pace. Beautiful views all the way up. Hiked with my husband and 5 year old daughter.

Erin Sheridan reviewed Lost Cabin Trail

Started from Willow Creek trailhead in horse camp vice the recommended start here. Note that the transition from trail 8 to Lost Cabin (trail 2?) is not marked, there is only a slight foot path that will lead you to a turnaround, and from there you turn left and jump on the trail. I had a good time on this hike, but I bumped it down to a 3 due to trail condition. Parts of Lost Cabin were so heavily grown over that it felt like bushwacking. Same with 9 north, though not nearly as bad. Hiked up and ran down as able in 6 hours. Start early to avoid the worst of the heat. No water sources except streams where you need to treat. Go upcreek to avoid the worst of the horse contamination. Have fun out there.

Did this trail in reverse, up 9 and down 4. #9 was wide and in great condition; amazing views. #4 was narrow and less traveled but with some beautiful views of the Cathedral Spires. Took it slow and easy with my 4 year old hiking alongside. Round trip was about 4 hours.

A good intermediate hike. The trail blazes/cairns are a little sparse at the top of the mountain but otherwise it’s well marked. We took our time, as our 4.9 year old was attempting to hike it all on her own, but we made it there and back in about 3.5 hours. Beautiful views from the ridge to the summit.
