A little overgrown by the salmon berries and raspberries but overall a great ride. Had access to the river at several points and saw a group of elk cross the river. Tons of snakes and chipmunks along our way. Only encountered one hiker during the ride so it was very nice. Unfortunately a group of weird people pulled up right when I was leaving and seemed to be up to no good. Watch out for weirdos! (Portlandia reference, anyone?!?)

Erin H reviewed Blue Mountain Logging Road - South

Took my horse up the road despite it being open and logging trucks going up - technically the area is not closed when it is open. But it is at your own risk. We went up about 1 1/2 miles and ran into a logging truck. The truck let all the other loggers know we were using the road and to slow down. After that all the trucks were super cautious and would allow us to move over and pass us slowly. We reached a look out to the left, blocked by a log that we went around, that viewed the Twin Sisters, then turned around and headed to 1000 puddles/Saxon road trails which were full of salmon berries and raspberries. Also watched elk crossing the river on the Nooksack.

Nice trail system, well maintained and full of wildlife. Unfortunately a lot of strange people were on the trail when I went for a walk on a Sunday morning! Passed out in the bushes or asking for drugs when I walked by. One even followed me back to my car. Will not be walking there alone ever again.

I wish I had known about this a long time ago! I took my dog out for a 4 mile “hike” around this park and the adjacent trails. Lots of wildlife, very quiet. I thought it was as well maintained as it needed to be. Some bushwhacking required on the narrower trails and areas around the water are muddy. Since this is a mountain biking trail system you need to be careful of bikers coming around some of the blind turns, along with off-road vehicles on the wider trails. Other than that it is a great trail system and I will be returning!
