This is a gorgeous state park. I would rate the trails as easy, the coyote trail has a bit of steep rock hiking, but it is accessible for anyone able-bodied.

We got there a bit before 9 am on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded...though on our way out around 1:30 the entrance and parking lots were packed.

Went on Oct 1, 2016 and the colors were perfect.

I would rate this trail as easy... Unless your definition of easy does not include switchbacks. There are switchbacks all the way up the hill but anyone can do this hike if they bring some water and take breaks.

This trail was very crowded, even on a Monday morning.

Overall, nice hike if you're looking for views and to not take up your whole day, but I think there are less crowded trails in the park.

Hiked this last summer towards the end of July and it is still one of my favorites. We hiked it from Echo lake campground, though I believe you may be able to park closer than that....

The trail is well maintained and the last leg to the upper lake is worth it. Beautiful area!

This is probably one of the top five hikes I've done. The trail is beautiful and challenging, varied and hard to find the last 1-2 miles.

We hiked it in late June and there was still quite a bit of snow. We ended up bush-whacking and scrambling the last half mile or so because we couldn't find the trail (probably due to the snow). It was completely worth it!

If you are unsure of the trail, climb the ridge up from the right side. If you hike this in early summer bring some waterproof boots.

We started from the trailhead near Tom Bennett campground, which made it probably around 12 miles round trip, but I think you can start from a connector trail in CSU's mountain campus that would cut about 2-4 miles off of it.

This is a great hike and I would do it again! A few notes that may help:

-As of June 2016 the bridge is still out. We crossed via some logs in a narrower section, but I don't recommend this for children or those not in good physical condition. Fall River was moving very fast due to the runoff.

-it is actually 4.5 miles to Ypsilon, meaning 9 miles round trip

-June 2016 still had lots of snow!

-We tried to get up to Spectacle lake but couldn't quite make it because we frequently lost the trail due to snow. However we did determine you need to stay right of the creek almost the whole way.

Lory State Park is lovely, the reason I'm giving this particular trail 3 stars is because the first two miles are very exposed in fields of desert-like grasses. If you do this on a hot day be prepared... Once you get into the trees this is a great little trail. I looped it with kimmons and Howard on the way back and it took me a little over 3 hours (taking my time).
