We did most of this trail while veering off here and there so our hike totaled 4.86 miles, but it was a beautiful day and lots to see on the hike. It was perfect for a first hike this season as we get our bodies used to it again, fairly level and even but the easy long decline at the start was definitely an incline to get the heart pumping by on the way back!! ...and the pups loved it!!

It's a beautiful trail with amazing views the entire time, I think it's more than a decent outing but it is also much more than a "moderate" trail! It starts out very easy and gets progressively harder not only with the constant elevation climbs which don't give you much of a break and are a constant up and then down and back up and down as well as an increase in rocks to traverse with little or not trail to follow, in fact we lost the "blue" markers at some points. It's hard on the knees going up and you don't realize how much you climbed up until you turn around to go down and your hips take a beating with the climb down. We actually didn't get to the slope view, we were only .47 away per the map it was much farther than that and with the o crease in rock climbing and the 2.5 hours it took to get there already.... time and weather (and my body) knew there was still the entire way back still to go. We missed seeing the views but after that climb down and back we both knew there was way more than only half mile to the slope view and it was good we turned around. We enjoyed it but it was more than we were prepared for on this hiking day.

Third hike and loved it!! The long flat walk paralleling the railroad tracks and the C&O Canal was a great start but on the way back seemed so much longer and void of views... But it was a great hike and our pups loved it too!!
