Eric Sexton reviewed Rattlesnake Gulch Trail

Steadily uphill most of the way but not too taxing. A great spot close to Boulder. I was surprised by how scenic the canyon is. It's $8 to park for the day or $3 if you park on the street and walk up to the entrance. Hard to gauge because I wasn't paying close attention to it but I'd guess we drove about a half mile or so from the entrance to our parking spot by the trailhead. So if you walk in be prepared for a little extra hiking.

Not a rough hike at all if you're in moderately good shape and the lake at the end is incredible. A little too busy for me at times but it's still absolutely worth it.

Very easy and right off the highway. If you're looking for a quick stop near Boulder this could work.

Definitely a solid hike. The trail itself seemed a bit less scenic than the trail to Royal Arch but the view at the end is much more stunning. You get a clear view of the Rockies from the top of the first flatiron and it makes the trek up worth it. For most people trying to enjoy themselves and appreciate the surrounds give it anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours. But if you've got something to prove I'm sure you could do it faster.

We really enjoyed this hike. I'd do it again. We sort of did it in reverse (instead of starting on Mount Sanitas trail we started on the other trail. I forget the name but it's the one on the right. It'll make sense when you get there). Anyway, this seemed much more gradual at first. But once we started the summit it was still a good workout. I don't know if it qualifies as "scrambling" but It gets pretty rocky at some points and it's fun to climb on all fours. I'm an animal though so YMMV. Anyone in reasonable shape could do this hike but don't kid yourself. I saw those dudes who don't wear t-shirts so they can show off their 6 pack huffing and puffing on the ascent. It's really doable though!

I've only used the bike trails but it's a good time. If I'm bored on a Saturday afternoon it's a good way to work up a sweat by biking on the trails.

Good for hiking with the dog. Heads up, you have to pay a parking fee if you don't have Boulder county plates(sorry guys!)

A nice hike to get a good sweat going and the view at the end is great. We went on a weekday afternoon and although the parking lot at Chautauqua was full (when isn't it?) the further up you go the less people you run into. I imagine on the weekends it would be a bit too crowded for me but if you're only in town for the weekend go for it.

We hiked from the hidroelectrica station to Cusco and took the bus up to the ruins. There's really nothing else like it on earth.

The $11 entrance fee is kind of steep but the views are incredible. We came on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait for parking spaces to open up before they would let anyone in the front entrance. I was concerned it would be crowded but there's so much space that once we got in you couldn't tell the difference. The girl we picked up on the drive out said she got there 9 AM and there wasn't a line so YMMV. This was also the second day being open after a season being closed. FWIW you can park in smaller lot to the right of the main entrance if you don't mind walking an extra 4-5 miles or so.

Easy loop, which was good for my dog on a hot summer day. If you want a little more of a challenge you can enter the trail from a small path on the side of the road (with a sign post), maybe a few hundred feet before the parking lot. You'll essentially hike it in the opposite direction as everyone else and the hike up is a bit harder that way. But still relatively quick. We did this by accident, not bad. Good views.

We did this in July of 2017. The hike hike down the canyon from Cabanaconde was easy. We camped a couple nights in the small "oasis" of Sangalle. I'm not sure if this map represents that exact path. Anyway, incredible place to camp! Id never seen so many stars! Also, we didn't pay to camp the first couple nights because we got in late and set up camp down hill from the main camping area(whatever, we were broke backpackers). The hike back up suuucked. Pack light but bring lots of water. They'll gouge you if you try to buy it in the canyon.

I did this with a buddy of mine on a hot day in April last year. By the time we reached the summit it was 40 degrees and raining. As others mentioned the temperature can vary lot. Definitely recommend the hike though. The views at the top are incredible.
