This was a fun trail. The area is beautiful to hike through, rocky with some muddy spots. The tall pines along the steep edge of the mountain are really beautiful and there's a bench to sit and take it in. The views at the top are beautiful in so many directions! We look forward to doing this trail again.

Ok, this is a really rocky trail so be ready for that. That being said, I would do this trail again as it is definitely challenging. We found most of the hikers started up the Red Dot Trail (Mt. Tammany overlook) then went to the Blue Trail which makes the actual loop. The philosophy is to get the big elevations done in a shorter distance and come downhill over an extended length rather than do the opposite. We didn't know this until meeting local rock climbers and we went the opposite way, the Appalachian Trail, to Blue Trail (only a short time on the AT) then to Red Dot Trail. We want to go back an do this hike again in the opposite direction. It was still nice but we spent miles going uphill. Be prepared for a pretty crazy steep rock sprawl that must have been over a hundred yards long and would seem like 2-3' stones were dumped and called the trail. It's challenging, but it is doable. Our dog breezed through totally in her element. We want to add in more of the AT next time and go up to Sunfish Pond. You have good trail options here, just be prepared for the rocky terrain.

It's a nice trail with a fairly easy difficulty as you ascend to the peak. Great views from the fire tower. We camped in Molly Stark so it was nice to walk down the road and onto the trail. The tower is close to the 100 mile scenic overlook so you can get the same view. We are looking forward to doing this again.

I loved this trail. The first 1.4 miles are really nice, rolling along, but do not let that beginning fool you. After you cross the IP road it's uphill, 1,000 feet in 1.8 miles and the last 30 minutes are rocky switchbacks. Hang in there because the difficulty is worth the view when get to the fire tower. 3,940 plus the 55' tower. This is the birthplace for the idea of the Appalachian trail and The Long Trail. Great view and an iconic piece of hiking history.

Fish, surf, explore the bay side, kayak, bike, crab, go clamming. Lots to do here, and I've done all those I listed. Love it!

This is a beautiful area to hike. It's nice to see what the area used to look like before the area was over populated. It's an easy walk with minimal elevation changes. There's a nice variety of trails that go from out along the edge of the bay and back into the woods. The wildlife and birds are great. Definitely watch for ticks, but luckily the trails are wide enough so you aren't into brush. I've been out here several times over the years, always beautiful.
