I did 4 of the 5 peaks this past weekend (June 29-July 1). I wanted to do all five but did not manage (first backpacking trip and I was carrying too much weight) anyways... We started at the Elk Lake Trailhead, hiked in Friday night, camped at the Slide Brooke then proceeded to Macomb the next morning. The slide on Macomb is a bear but doable. It will slow you down. East Dix (Grace Peak) was amazing. The hike to Hough was very difficult. We ran out of water so hiked down the Lillian Brook Trail and camped another night at the Slide Brook Lean To Area before hiking out the next morning. Overall it was a grueling but worth it hike. Every peak had spectacular views. I wish I had gotten to Dix but I will have the conquer that another time.

GORGEOUS HIKE, but its tough. Probably one of the hardest hikes I've done in the ADK. The beginning of the hike is fine, first sections are on a dirt road and very boring, but we saw deer so I was entertained. It is a decent haul to even hit the base of the mountain, once there it gets steep fast (that is what I struggled with). We hiked to Sawteeth then continued to Pyramid Peak, which was by far the best views! You see Gothics and others, I enjoyed this very much. The hike to Gothics can look intimidating but it wasn't so bad. Continue to Gothics and if you have time/energy hit Armstrong and Lower/Upper Wolf Jaw. I was slow with this one and we were running out of light so we ended up going to Armstrong then heading down the Beaver Meadow Trail. Overall an awesome hike and you can knock off some high peaks (We did 3, but you could do 5 if you wanted).

    Hiked in July 2017.

Did it in April 2017. Still snow and ice towards the top. Also just a generally very crowded trail. Probably the easiest high peak I’ve hiked so far.

Did this because we summited the glacier earlier than we expected. Very windy when we went by still so quiet and very few people. If you have time I’d say do it, it’s basically on the way anyways.

Nice and easy, great views but I’d recommend hiking down to the lake though. See my other review.

Really popular hike but if you have limited time I’d recommend doing this one over the others I’ve done. You will experience everything: glacier waters, amazing views, switchbacks galore, and most likely wildlife sightings.

I’ve done this one twice, one in early August and once in late August. The one I did in early August we were up on the ridge line and we saw a mother grizzly and two babies playing in the steam below. It was the coolest thing. The late August hike on the same ridge line we saw a massive bull moose munching away on greens down below. When we got up to the glacier I saw some Big Horn Sheep as well so keep your eyes open and bring binoculars!

    LOVED THIS ONE!

If you hike down you basically leave 95% of the tourists behind at the observation deck. The switchbacks might seem intimidating but if you take your time coming back up it’s so worth it.

We also ended up seeing a Mountain Goat right on the switchbacks on the way back up from the lake. It was really awesome laying out on the rocks by the lake very quiet and relaxing.

What a nice easy leisurely hike. It does not feel like it is as much elevation gain as it lists on this. We saw moose, deer, and loads of wild birds. The lake at the end is just breathtaking. We did it in late August and there was still and iceberg floating in the water. Highly recommend!

If you have difficulty hiking I can see why this is appealing since it’s easily accessible, but it wasn’t that impressive to me.

We walked on part of this trail overlooking the river below and it was really nice. We went from Emerald Pools to the Grotto on this trail. Nice little walk.

Emily Rumpf reviewed Zion Narrows Trail to Imlay Temple and Big Spring

This was an excellent hike. We rented gear from Zion Outfitters upon recommendations online. It definitely made our experience better. You could do it without gear, but the people we saw without it were cold or struggling and most didn’t make it very far.

We started out very early got to Zion Outfitters right when they opened geared up and basically got one of the first shuttles out to the Narrows. It was mostly in the shade for our walk in because we started so early, on the way back we were in the sun.

It is not like walking on slippery bowling balls. Please ignore that if you’ve read it. It is typical stream/river walking, if you’ve ever done that before you’ll be fine. If you don’t rent gear I would recommend a walking stick at the very least.

We walked a couple miles in and made it to Wall Street and a little beyond before we had to turn around. It was an awesome hike even going early though there were still loads of people. By the time we walked back there was not a single second we didn’t see someone else. I can see why this is one of those must do hikes in Zion.

Very unique trail! And you get to use some chains like Angel’s Landing which is cool. The first part is all switchbacks and then a short walk to the canyon. You can go pretty far into the canyon even passed the end of trail sign if you’re willing to scramble and stuff, but it doesn’t really amount to a view or anything.

Emily Rumpf reviewed East Rim Trail to Observation Point

By far the best hike of the park. We set out early and beat most of the crowd.

The beginning is a lot of steep endless switchbacks but going through the middle area and canyon is very cool. The last part of switchbacks is even worse but the last .75 to a mile is entirely flat with amazing views on top of the Mesa.

This hike makes Angels Landing look like a joke! Best part is I think most people don’t even bother with it because of the distance. Made it to the summit in 2 hours and I’m averagely fit.

You get to look way down on Angels Landing and look across the other Mesas. Highly recommend this one.
