Emily Klein reviewed Mantua Reservoir Trail

My husband and I completed this hike on October 28 with Scout dog.

This trail is very flat and wide, and would be perfect for a kids' first mountain bike experience. Nothing too exciting on this hike, but nice mountain and lake views.

My husband and I completed this hike on October 21. We started around 10:30 and were surprised to find there were only a couple people we encountered on the way their, and a few on the way back (maybe everyone gone for fall break?).

The trail is lovely and not too steep. We were a couple weeks late on peak fall foiliage, but everything was beautiful just the same.

Our only regret is that when we got to the waterfall, we scrambled down to the river. Instead of scrambling back up, however, we took a long, meandering way down that added a significant chunk of time to our hike. Next time, we'll have to figure out a better way to get back up to the main trail.

The quiet, beautiful morning was well worth the 90-minute drive for us. A must-do hike for northern Utah!

My husband and I and Scout dog completed this hike on October 13.

The trailhead is easy to find, but I with the trail was better marked because there are some places to turn off. We used to app to double-check where we were several times.

The trail was pleasant, part pavement part dirt, with some undulating hills. Part of the trail is an off-leash dog area, and we enjoyed seeing all the doggos enjoying their Saturday morning. There's also a stream for them to play in.

Another warning.... THERE IS POISON OAK ON THIS TRAIL. My husband and I took a little detour to check out an old bridge. On this side trail, I also peed, and chose the *WRONG* leaves to wipe with. Multiple sleepless nights and trips to urgent care later... I am writing this as a warning so nobody makes the same dumb mistake I did!

My husband and I completed this hike with our Scout dog on September 29. This is a nice, gently graded, easy-to-follow trail with some nice views. My only complaint is that there wasn't an official "end" to the trail. The trail itself kept going, but the app said that we had made it to the turn-around point.

Other than that, it was a nice trail and the perfect day for hiking. We even saw a moose near the lake.

My husband and I completed this trail with my father-in-law on September 2. My FIL uses a wheelchair, so this was the only hike in the area he could do. This e area and the trail head was easy enough to find.... just remember that you need to pay the fee to enter the state park ($7 I think).

This is a paved, mostly flat-ish trail. Some ups and downs, and some cracks/uneven pavement to watch our for, but still pretty manageable for us pushing the wheelchair. Views were nice but not spectacular. Saw a frog and a lizard.

This is a nice trail for anyone looking for a simple nature walk, but serious hikers/adventurers would be unamused.

My husband and I completed this hike on August 25 with Scout dog.

From the earlier reviews, we were worried it would be an unpleasant experience, but we had a pretty nice time. Yes, there was a bit of litter, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. And we saw one group of drifters congregating by the water, but everyone else on the trail was civilized and friendly.

This trail is fully paved, and partially shaded, depending on the time of day. This would be a fun bike ride for kids.

My husband and I completed this hike with Scout dog on August 25.

We chose to do this hike because was short and had minimal elevation gain, which I needed due to my current knee issues. An added benefit is that this hike is almost entirely shaded.

From the reviews I read beforehand, I was expecting this trail to be an ugly and miserable experience. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that yes, there is litter on this trail, but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. We brought a grocery bag to pick up trash, and we filled it with trash from the trail. There was other trash along the sides of the trail but I wasn't able to get that due to my mobility issues. There were a couple places along the trail that had a really foul stench. In one place, it was caused by a dead cat carcass, and in another, the smell was caused by a homeless encampment just off to the side of the trail.

Overall, not as bad as I thought this trail would be. Worth checking out if you're looking for a quick hike close to the city.

My husband and I completed this hike on August 18. We chose it because its short and flat.... perfect to do in my knee brace.

This is a nice, quick hike that's close to town! It's flat and covered in wood chips the entire way. It has some nice views of the Wasatch Front (and even a bench to sit on to enjoy the view), as well as some informational plaques about the local plants, geology, etc. There is zero shade, so bring plenty of water!

My husband and I completed this trail on August 20, 2018. We chose this trail because it was short and flat, and therefore perfect to hike in my knee brace.

This trail is decent for a quick walk, but nothing spectacular.... no water features, no wildlife. It might be a nice hike for seniors or young children (except there is a pretty steep downhill section of about 100 feet, so be careful). Had some good views of the Wasatch Front.

This trail could be better marked. It intersects with several other trails, so we had to check the app several times to make sure we were on the right path.

My husband and I and our friend Erin completed this hike on July 28.

We started the hike at about 12:30, and made it down around 3:30 (although we did jog part of the way down). It was a 100* day, and only 10% of the trail is shaded, so we were roasting. The trail is moderately inclined the entire way, with sections that are severely steep. We stopped probably 10 times on the way up.

The views at the top were great.... we're glad we made it! My only complaint for this hike is the directions. I've been on the Indian Trail multiple times and never noticed the turnoff for Hidden Valley.

Would definitely recommend this hike for anyone who is in good shape and ready to take on a serious climb.

This was a wonderful hike! Most of the way up is a mild-moderate incline, and the trail is partially shaded. The day we went was overcast and a bit cooler, so we didn't even need to stop for water on the way up.

The trail is easy to follow, and has a great endpoint. Would definitely recommend this trail to any hiker!

My husband and I completed this hike on July 17. We went midday.... was about 100*, by we figured we could do a super-short hike like this.

Overall pretty enjoyable hike and easy to follow. However we did get lost for a few minutes before using the app to guide us back to the trail (hint: at the top of the stairs, make a sharp left!).

The endpoint had some mildly interesting historical information.

If you're looking to do a hike in the St. George summer heat, I'd recommend this one for its quickness and easy accessibility. But be warned that it is hot, and there is zero shade. Although it was just .8 miles, we still took our water with us, and we're glad we did!

This trail is conveniently located, and easy to follow. Since it's paved, it's wheelchair friendly, but there is a steep descent at the beginning, so you'd need to be careful. We didn't see any spectacular wildlife, but it was a decent walk nonetheless. And afterwards, we ran through the splash pad that was right next to the parking lot.

Would recommend this hike for anyone looking for something easy and close by.

This was an awesome hike! Yes, it's steep, but there was way more shade than we expected, so it wasn't too miserable.

My husband and I completed this hike on July 1.

The AllTrails map is accurate in terms of getting you to the trailhead and starting you on the trail.

However, there must have been some error, because it led us way too far past the petroglyphs. We had never done this trail, and we walked past the glyphs without noticing them, just going off the app's guidance. We hiked way deeper into the canyon and through some very sketchy obstacles. We finally decided to turn around because it was getting too dangerous, even though we hadn't found the glyphs. On the way back, we finally found them.

For those doing this trail.... the glyphs are on the left side as you're hiking up the waterfall area. They are at at a slightly higher elevation than the trail.

Not sure why the app didn't work for us. I think we would have had a better time if we hadn't exhausted ourselves going so far past the glyphs. Be careful, everyone!

This hike was okay. Typical canyon hike- lovely views and mostly shaded. Frustrating that the trail was overgrown in some areas, especially toward the end. We're not even sure we made it to the official end of the trail... we just couldn't go any farther.

Probably would've given it 3 stars, but the stream crossings and clusters of butterflies were redeeming factors.

My husband and I completed this hike on June 25.

It was a hot day, and the trail is completely exposed, so we definitely worked up a sweat, even though it was short. It was moderately steep most of the way, with at least 20 steps at the end.

We loved the views from the top. We saw the entire city of Golden, the Coors factory, and much of the Denver metro area. The only bummer was that there were colonies of flying ants at the top, and we were swarmed, so we couldn't stand still long enough to take a decent picture.

Overall great hike. A must-do if you're in the area!

My husband and I completed this hike on June 19 with Scout dog.

This trail was mostly shaded, and had a moderately steep incline the entire way.

At one point, we might have taken a wrong turn, because we never made it to a waterfall or an overlook. According to the app, we were still on the trail, and we made it to the "end," but it was just a random clearing in the middle of the canyon. So maybe we should've kept going?

Oh well. A decent, but not spectacular, hike.

My husband and I completed this hike on June 17.

We started at about 2PM..... not our best move. We also didn't pack enough water, so we were rationing the entire way. Fortunately, we remembered sunblock (the trail is 100% exposed) and bug spray. Additionally, we had the good luck of having an occasional breeze accompany us the entire way. That wind prevented us from being eaten alive by bugs. In fact, we were hardly bothered at all. In the two days since our hike, we've only discovered one bug bite each!

The trail was steep.... we took rest breaks every 10-15 minutes. The views were phenomenal! The crystal-blue water seemed to extend forever, and we could hardly stop looking at it.

Would recommend this for anyone up for a challenge!

My husband and I completed this hike with our neighbor's dog on June 12.

We started around 5pm, after my husband got off work. This trail was easy and pleasant. It's ether flat or slightly inclined most of the way, with a few river crossings. This trail also intersected with several other trails as well as the golf course... fortunately there are plenty of signs that keep you on the correct path.

When we got to the end parking lot, we just turned around and took the trail back. If you want, at that point, you can just take the street back and it would be less mileage.

It was fun to have the dog with us..... he enjoyed being our leader!

Would recommend this easy hike to anyone!

My husband and I completed this hike on June 10.

Someone in a previous comment mentioned that this was "the perfect hike." We would have to agree!

We started at 9AM and enjoyed the sights of beautiful wildflowers, tree-covered mountains, scenic vistas of Logan Canyon. The trail was mostly either flat or slightly inclined, so we didn't need even to stop for water.

The tree itself is interesting for only a minute or two. The real beauty of this hike is in the journey.

The trail is approximately 11 miles, but it didn't feel that long. It probably helped that we moved at a pretty decent pace.

We didn't see hardly anyone on our way up, but on our way down we saw probably a dozen people. We finished at 1PM, spending a total of 4 hours on the trail.

    Would recommend this to anyone!

Emily Klein reviewed Burch Creek Trail

My husband and I completed this hike on June 7.

Everything started out great. The trailhead is in a nice area and is easy to find. The trailer had lush green trees and vegetation, providing good shade as we walked along next to the creek.

About ten minutes in, the trail started to become incredibly overgrown. We had to look at the app multiple times to make sure we were on the right path (constantly checking my phone is obviously not something I want to do when I'm out trying to enjoy nature!). The brush we had to walk through gave us dozens of small scratches on our legs. And, since we literally could not see the trail under us, we would stumble over big roots and rocks that we couldn't see or anticipate.

All of this made for a pretty stressful experience. It was such a bummer because visually, the area is so pretty and it could've been such a nice hike, but the condition of the trail made it miserable.

Maybe in the winter, when there's no plant growth, this would be a better hike? It's definitely not one I would recommend for summer.

The dripping rock was cool. The trail doesn't lead you directly to it. Instead, you just have to jump of the trail and go down the ravine to the river to see it.

My husband and I completed this hike on June 3.

We camped nearby the night before and woke up at 5 to get an early start. The trail is very easy to follow and is mostly flat with undulating small hills. We never had to stop to catch our breath.

Hot springs were amazing and beautiful. We found one that seemed to be about 90 degrees - perfect for us. Since we went so early, we had it to ourselves for a while, but by the time we were leaving, others had shown up. Only complaint is that we had to clean out beer cans before we soaked. Not cool!

Obviously the main draw of this trail is the hot springs, but the rest of the trail was beautiful as well.
