Elaine Bouchard reviewed Stinson Mountain Trail

Nice quick hike to get one in for intermediate hikers. Took me 52 minutes to get to the top and it measured 1.8 miles one way... which would mean it's actually closer to 3.6 miles according to my gps. I think it would be a good but a bit challenging for kids. I thought it was a bit harder than Rattlesnake Mtn in Rumney maybe only due to the length. Very muddy despite it not having rained for 4 oe 5 days and a bit rocky but nothing that waterproof hiking boots can't handle. I did enjoy the sounds of sprinking/ running water almost the whole way up though. I might actually rate this more of a 3.5 honestly. The views were gorgeous on the day I went and I do think I liked this one better than Tecumseh on top. I do think it was worth the hike... but bring your poles for the way down.

Decided to do this one to check off my second 4000 footer. Unless you are tall than the views are very limited. The beginning was not too steep but as it continued on further it had increased in steepness but also had lots of stone steps to make it a bit easier. I actually did not think it was marked well in the very beginning or in the very end but on the main trail in the middle it’s pretty obvious. I don’t know if I’ll do this one again but I’m glad I did it anyhow and it was a nice day and overall a nice hike. BTW- The summit is extremely small and seems even smaller when there are other hikers up there with you. Nonetheless, a great workout! Got it done in under three hours and probably could’ve done it in 2 1/2.

It’s one of my personal favorites but probably because it’s a regular for me. I prefer snowshoeing up it as the view at the summit is not clear without trees if you are not 6 feet tall or taller during the spring/summer, but Pikes Peak has a gorgeous view on one side. It’s a great training mountain for working on longer steep mountains as it has a continuous and moderately steep incline almost the whole way.
