Eddie Fournier reviewed Beaver Meadow Trail to West River Trail Loop

Did this loop counterclockwise with the addition of Lower Wolfjaw. Total hike took me 9.75 hours including short stops. Conditions were icy above 3500', but trail otherwise in great condition. First half of Beaver Meadow trail going down was slow.

Did this as part of a loop with Armstrong and coming down Beaver Meadow trail. Took me 9.75 hours, including short stops. Toughest part was coming up UWJ, LWJ is not difficult. Crampons needed above 3600'. Only 1/2'' of snow.

Eddie Fournier reviewed Whiteface, Lookout and Esther Mountains

Started very early (with headlamp) and witnessed daybreak on top of Marble Mountain. Needed to put on crampons about 1 hour in. Herd path to Esther is fun and easy to follow even if there is no view once there. No mud today as everything is frozen. I found the last portion up Whiteface is not as steep or strenuous as others like Algonquin or Marcy. Since the road was closed to traffic, I decided to use it to get back to my car and enjoyed many more views than those on the trail. Total time including short breaks: 6.5 hours, milleage 12.3

Eddie Fournier reviewed Mount Marcy via Van Hoevenberg Trail

Started from the lot at 6:40 and got back at 15:50. I was somewhat surprised it took me so long as I was really breezing down the last part. Upper sections were icy however, and the crampons were of great help. A lot of mud and water after Indian Falls; the ice started maybe 1.5 mile before the summit (not all over the place but enough to make you ponder your steps). Just a few people on top and met maybe 40-50 people going down - a manageable population for such a long hike.

Perfect trail to enjoy Fall colors. Trail is mostly dirt, and very gradual, very easy on the feet! Two large ponds and a great point of view above the cliffs. You will be taking more breaks than needed during this hike.

Eddie Fournier reviewed Wright, Algonquin, Iroquois via Algonquin Trail

I started off with no firm intent of doing all 3 summits, and Wright was a rough one to start with as it is pretty steep and extremely windy. But weather was otherwise great and I felt in great shape so off to Algonquin I went. There is a long portion above tree-line and thus fantastic views - you hardly notice you're climbing on that last part! Trip to Iroquois was fun and not very strenuous. To get there you need to turn right, instead of left, as soon as you drop below tree-line South of Algonquin. Round trip took me 8.5 hours with short stops on each summit.

Eddie Fournier reviewed Avalanche Pass and Avalanche Lake Trail

Got to the Loj at 7:50 - parking was full, but we did not miss by much. Parked at the end of South Meadows lane, which adds 0.7 mile each way. Trail was quite muddy starting mid-way between Marcy dam and the lake. Took a lot of pictures with my good camera and stopped a number of times, so we were out for about 8.5 hours. Trail along the lake is very slow - a lot of rocks/ladders. There were 2 places where you actually had to put a foot in 2 inches of water - hopefully trail will be repaired soon. Saw some rock climbers on the face of Avalanche Mountain. Nice waterfall down Colden. Beautiful lake - this is a must see.
