Ed Chapelle reviewed Boundary Bay from Waterton via Great Divide Trail

Took the 10am boat from Waterton to Goat Haunt, Montana, and hiked to Kootenai Lakes and then we were about to hike back to Waterton when the US Ranger advised us the suspension bridge was out so we'd have to cross the river (right at Goat Haunt) on foot or take another boat back. He said the water was knee deep at the site of the bridge and mid-calf deep at the mouth of the river, but we found a place just upstream from the mouth of the river that was only ankle deep but then we had to bushwack upstream to the trail. All that added 50 mins and was not fun. Be aware you will get wet if you do this from Goat Haunt up to Waterton or if you are going from Waterton to Goat Haunt. Also, it's 14km one way. There are a few water views but not much. This hike has the distinction of crossing an international border but apart from that, and limited water views, it's not that exciting.

Took the boat from Waterton to Goat Haunt today, did Kootenai Lakes loop before hiking back. Nice, easy trail, unfortunately no moose today at the lake, just water fowl that took off right after we arrived. Note if you are planning to hike back to Waterton, the suspension bridge is out and you have to cross the river so you will get wet.

Did this yesterday (Sept 28) and it was a nice, easy hike. Nice views of both falls on the way up and the light dusting of snow made the trees look even nicer. Went a bit around the lake, the low cloud cover obscured the views of the peaks surrounding the lake but was still beautiful. We were the first ones to the lake and it was very still and peaceful. No wildlife sightings. Walking through the burned out forrest for a large part of the hike gave this trail a different feel but you can already see the regrowth happening.

Did this in 27mins as a trail run (hike up quick run down even quicker). Nice falls at the top.

Very easy hike. Nice views. Did this as a recovery hike after Ptarmigan tunnel + Iceberg Lake yesterday. Saw a moose (f) on the way back and some bald eagles.

Did this hike today (after Ptarmigan lake and tunnel). The views are spectacular and the lake is amazing. Saw a momma bear and her cubs near the lake. An easy hike all the way.

Did this hike today (including the tunnel). The views are spectacular all the way up. Not very challenging to the lake, some easy switchbacks take you up to the tunnel (to be closed in 2 days!). Saw some deer, mountain goats and big horn sheep. Amazing scenery makes this hike one of my favourites!!

Did this hike on Sept 23. Only boat in was 10am, only boat back was 530. 15 min ride over/back. There were around 40-50 ppl on the boat and everyone made the 530 pickup. We did the Hell Roaring Falls side trip on the way back and were back to the dock by 450. 6 and 1/2 hrs round trip. I really enjoyed this hike, it has a bit of everything- boat ride, waterfalls (4), forrest, valley, ladder, tunnel, chain section and, of course, Crypt Lake. So glad to have had the chance to do this hike!!

Attmepted this yesterday. No snow at the trailhead but progressively more as you ascend (up to waist deep at some points!). Very cloudy so limited views, got to within 800m (300 vertical m) of the summit before turning around. Will try this again in the summer.

Quick trip just up to the main summit (not the loop). You can avoid the tricky scrambling sections if you wish via trails to the right. Lots of smoke today but it was still a great hike. 3hrs 10 mins car to car.

Did this hike on Sun Aug 19 and really enjoyed it. 2 hrs up the west side then followed the traverse as shown on this map. 1hr 20mins for the traverse to the high point, then 2hrs down. It was a very enjoyable hike despite the smoke. As most scrambling sites/books indicate, do this counter clockwise. As well, there is parking just off the highway, east of the access for lac des arcs and heart creek which will save you a little bit of time.
