Gorgeous views, tons of wildflowers, and a very moderate hike in. We also saw several moose during the trip. Not a ton of camping spots, so if you're backpacking you'll want to get up there really on the weekends, or hike in Friday night. The hike up to American Lakes (really only one lake) was borderline easy at only 3ish miles one way, I'm not sure why it is rated as difficult. Nice place to camp, as you can do little jaunts up to Snow Lake, Thunder Pass, and the couple peaks right on the basin (we did Lulu Mtn.), which are also quite moderate. This is a VERY popular spot given the short distance, so expect to see a lot of people, though most are day hikers.

Great hike basically right out of Silverthorne. This was early June, and we hit some snow about halfway up to the boulder field and ended up post-holing for a bit; we had skis on our back though (headed up to ski Silver Couloir) so didn't phase us. Beautiful views up top and a few mountain goats curiously greeted us near the top of the couloir. If you aren't used to boulder fields this hike can be difficult, though I wouldn't say it's especially so when compared to other similar trails. You also get a bit of a respite from the larger rocks and it mellows a bit once "cresting" the main steep section of the east face of the mountain. Ski down was terrific!

Really beautiful area, especially if you continue past Constantine to the Tuhare Lakes - the upper lake is highly recommended. We camped at Constantine, lots of sites, but a fair amount of people as well. The area is definitely showing its use, more litter than you'd like to see in a wilderness area. All in all a good weekend though!

Really cool hike very close to town. Definitely steep, especially the first mile. We did it in the heat of the day (August) - would recommend in the morning/evening! Saw wild horses grazing, and the views of the valley from the top are spectacular.

Gore Lake is in a gorgeous basin, and definitely worth the hike. We backpacked in on a Friday afternoon and stayed 2 nights at the lake. Saw several groups of day hikers going in, but no one at the lake Friday night. Saturday a couple more groups showed up, but there are enough somewhat secluded places around the lake - we didn't notice the others at all. Took the relatively short hike to the upper lake in the area, Snow Lake. Beautiful spot at the top of the pass over Snow Lake, and relatively easy to get there. Decent amount of elevation gain to Gore Lake, and quite steep after the junction. Took us about 4 hours with the big packs.

Beautiful views from the summit, and multiple 13ers close by you can easily get to from the top. We hiked over to one to get away from the crowds (which were pretty relentless like most easy access 14ers). Hike was relatively easy if you're used to the elevation, as parking is over 12,000 ft. Pretty cool mining ruins to check out on the way up.

Passed along this trail while doing a larger loop in the Crazy Mountains. It's over 2,000 feet of elevation gain in less than 4 miles to get to the lake, so a somewhat demanding hike. The trail gets rockier the higher up you go. Beautiful views of Sunlight Peak on the way up, and a nice look into the Crazies from the top, with some sweeping views to the west towards the Bridgers. Tons of wildflowers. Mountain goats and bears in the area as well. You can continue past Sunlight Lake several miles down to the Sweetgrass Trail, which will take you into the heart of the Crazies., with towering mountains on either side of you.
