Donna Bottner reviewed Exclamation Point Trail to Chimney Rock

    A. This is after you’ve hiked to Chimney rock. Not vice versa.
    B. It’s not a hike. It’s 99.99% stairs with maybe 50’ in total of dirt.
    C. View is beautiful.
    D. DO NOT ATTEMPT IF OUT OF SHAPE OR AFRAID OF HEIGHTS.
    E. Elevator still broken.

HIked on 3/17. Connected from Bierstad to Bear lake. Trail fairly well packed. Snowshoes/skis not required, but you can use (snow is deep enough). We used hiking boots/trail shoes. No microspikes required.

HIked on 3/17. Packed. No snowshoes required. HIking boots/trail shoes required. Not a very pretty trail, but links up with others which is a work around for a lack of parking at Bear Lake.

Trail is well packed up to the lake. Trail shoes only worked great. It’s in great shape.

Two words: BUG SPRAY. Trail is extremely crowded until you get up past the Notch. Then the number of people thins out drastically. There is still some snow on the downward trail after the notch so watch for the switchbacks to stay on the trail. SUPER runnable. Went all the way up to Meadow Lake/Seymour Lake for a total 12 mile round trip.

6/24/17 There was no snow on the trail.

That said, this trail is soul crushing. The skid steer tried to make the trail better and instead made it worse. The last 3 miles up to the lake was nothing but a massive boulder field that prohibits you from doing anything but slowly picking you way across it and trying to not fall, roll and ankle, and swear profusely.

All of that said the lake is GORGEOUS and totally worth the trip.

Be warned; the water is really high once you get to mile 4. There are water crossings. Never cross deep/fast moving water. Additionally the trail disappears around mile 5. Do not wander off trail without proper orienteering skills.

Please note THIS IS NOT A FLIP FLOP TRAIL!!! I cannot begin to tell you the number of folks who miscalculate this trail.

The trail is short but worn. If your going out go EARLY as the hordes descend on this trail.

BRIDGE IS OUT at mile 2.5!!! Do not attempt to cross the creek at this time! Beautiful runnable trail otherwise.

Did this hike today. It was a beautiful hike. There is (limited) parking at the trail head up the road.
