This area is known as black beach. It is a very windy and dangerous area. There is a sign that talks about rouge waves taking victims out to sea for imminent death. The beach is composed of black pebbles and rocks. There are basalt column cliffs next to the beach. Only downfall is too many people.

As others have mentioned, you must pay for parking and display the ticket in your window. After paying, there is a short walk for a good view of the falls The mist from the falls will get you wet, especially if you go behind the falls. I HIGHLY recommend taking the short walk to the other waterfall and a gorge. There is a high waterfall in the gorge but it was crowded. I recommend waiting and going into the Gljúfrabúi gorge. It takes about 15-20 seconds to get into the gorge; however, the stream will get your feet wet.

This was probably the best short hike I did on Iceland. The gorge was absolutely beautiful. You'll have to make a short climb but he rock is not slippery. Keep going deeper in the gorge and you'll come to a green rope where you climb higher in the canyon. You'll get a little wet for sure. Unfortunately, we didn't have proper clothing or adequate time to make this climb.

This is a very quick walk around a lovely crater filled with water. The only downfall is it costs money to do this walk (I think 40 Krona).

This is a must-see waterfall, especially while traveling in Iceland's famous Golden Circle. This is an easy short walk with spectacular rewards!

This waterfall is located within Pingvellir National Park. In my opinion, the waterfall is not the highlight of the things to see. The history is interesting and i've never seen a fissure before. You can walk to the several attractions in about 2-3 hours.

This is a geothermal area with several mud pots, fumaroles and has a short walking path with a very strong sulfur smell to it (obviously). It is worth your time, especially if you have not been to Yosemite NP (probably the largest geothermal area in the world). You can continue your journey up a hill but it only leads to a scenic lookout area overlooking the geothermal area and the surrounding valley.

Once you get to the trailhead, there is a short easy hike to Dettifoss. Just when you think it can't get any better, take a footpath to Selfoss. In my opinion, Selfoss is more spectacular. Look at all the pics and just understand they're MUCH better in person! If you have the time, thee are not to be missed while in Iceland. I believe they are at least six hours or more away from Reykjavic so it's a long full day or an overnight stay (as we did) somewhere else.

This 4.1 mile hike is very beautiful; however, it is not to the top of the mountain. It is the same route that leads you to the summit but you must hike a little longer. After seeing this hike on "All Trails"; we planned for a two hour (4 mile) hike. This 4 mile hike takes you to a place called "steinn" which, according to an Icelandic native, means "rock." Anyhow, it is butt kicker with elevation gain of approximately 1100 feet per mile.

After reaching the bridge, stay to the left because that is the steamer way. It'll lead you to a sign that reads "steinn." Many of the locals, who regularly do this hike, turn around or complete the loop at this point.

We kept going to the visible mountain top in front of you (believing this was the summit). After ascending approximately 15-20 minutes, you reach a rocky portion where you must actually climb metal vertical steps. After a few short switchbacks, there is more climbing until you reach the top.
While on top, the fog quickly came in and made visibility difficult to navigate. It then started to rain so I began my downward trek. Once arriving at "steinn", we took the left trail for a loop. This section is a little longer but much prettier.

I just returned from a nine-day vacation in Iceland! This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and will most likely go back again. On our first day there, we walked all around the downtown area of Reykjavic. Reykjavic has fantastic restaurants and a vibrant day and night scene. Overall, I would recommend staying as long as possible because there are many activities to do.

Gorgeous waterfall and worth your time while in Iceland! There is an option to walk up several steps to the top but the views from the bottom are much better! We scored a bonus with a very scenic rainbow and, at times, a double rainbow!

Although not as beautiful as Yellowstone, they are very pretty. There are geysers & hot springs. This is more of a gentle walk but there are a lot of tourists (as expected).

Beautiful waterfall surrounded by basalt columns. The hike starts at the National Park visitor center. It takes about 25-35 minutes to the Falls and is a gradual climb. You can go back the same way or continue on a loop that adds about another miles or so. Definitely worth your time when in Iceland!

This is a beautiful waterfall that you can see from the roadside. From the start of the trail/walk, there is a gradual increase in elevation. We stopped, took a few pics, & finished in less than 15 minutes.
