The trail is pretty well marked until you get down to the lake. It's easy to get lost, but a GPS can keep you on the right track. The trail is pretty dusty to start. There's a little bit of a climb that's in the sun, but most of the trail is level with small hills. There are a few stream crossings and only one of them got me wet.

Bear Lake is pretty buggy and very packed right now. I camped in an area under some trees and I couldn't be outside of my hammock for a minute before I got swarmed. I had treated my clothes and was wearing bug spray and they were still crazy. I spent a lot of time on top of the rocks to do my camp chores.

We really liked this trail. it's mostly climbing until you get to the reservoir (about 1/4 mile from where the trail tracking ends)

We hiked past Grouse Creek which was about 200 feet across and ankle / calf deep dependent on the route you take. BRING CAMP SHOES. The creek is very cold and the rocks are sharp.

The best sites are past Grouse Creek, so it's worth it to continue past it. We found a nice site pretty easily, but we were there on Friday. Hiking out on Saturday there were quite a few groups heading up and the parking lot was full by the time we got down to Kennedy Meadows Resort.

If you are camping, make sure to get a reservation at Mi-Wok or Pinecrest on the way up. the permit is free and required.

Good hike. I'd probably do a 4.5/5 for this. We hiked this on Sunday with 2 adults and two kids. There was an marathon along the trail that made things a little more difficult. You're under the canopy for pretty much all of the trail, but it still gets a little warm. Bring layers.

The first part of the trip has a pretty good incline until you get to the Berry Creek / Sunset forks. After that, it's mostly a gradual incline with some smaller, steeper hills. The falls were flowing pretty well and look amazing right now. The trip back is a gradual incline. We took breaks about every mile or so and it wasn't too bad. This was our first longer hike, so your experience could be different.

There were a couple of muddy spots and a couple tree scrambles, but nothing terrible.

Good trail. We went two days after a rain and there were 3 or 4 muddy sections with one being a bit dangerous. Bring trekking poles if this is your situation. Other than that, the trail was in good shape. We ended up walking back on the road next to the trail. The waterfall was running very well and there were a lot of people on the trail and at the falls.
