This trail was a nice starter for my hiking season. A descent/constant ascent with just a handful of switchback. When you arrive in the lake valley though, being completely surrounded by an impenetrable mountain wall, the scene is idyllic. Trail is very wet due to snow melt and rain run-off, but mud isn't much of a problem

There were a fair amount of people when we arrived about 9am. By the time we were descending around 12:30pm though, there was a CONSTANT stream of people headed up. It took way longer to get down due to the narrow trail and so many people.

    GO EARLY!

Did this hike yesterday and it was pleasant though the trail is little more than a game track a lot of the way but I enjoyed not running across anyone. It's rather steep the whole 2.6 miles in but plenty of vistas to look at before getting all the way to the ridge. Ground is still pretty solid and frosty with a bit of mud and snow to cross. The main issue is the road coming in. You'll need something like a jeep or pickup that has 4WD to get to the trailhead easier. I'm not sure a car would even make it.
