We hiked to Mills Lake from Glacier Gorge TH and on the way back decided to add the mile to see Loch and what a treat it is. From Glacier you will see Alberta Falls and many many views along the way. The summit up was pretty steep but you're rewarded at the top. For July the crowds in the park have been relatively light. Beautiful lake and surroundings.

We attempted this hike 3 times until we were finally able to complete. Definitely go early in the day to avoid the crowds but more importantly to insure you will have good weather. We were hit with 2 hail storms but we also went late in the afternoon when storms typically role in. We completed this hike from Lily Lake TH which in my opinion is more difficult that the Longs Peak TH. The hike in itself was pretty moderate from Lily lake but the real work comes with only 1/2 mile left to reach the summit. But what a treat when you reach the top. Pretty spectacular views.

I would bet many people do not even know about this hike and head to Bridal Veils Falls instead. This could be the step-sister of Bridal Veils (which is quite beautiful) but this hike had me curious so we went back the next day (after hiking Bridal).
The first half is pretty challenging and honestly not very pretty. You do a handful of switchbacks through the forest and then you start heading down which only means you get to climb back up on your way back! The falls are beautiful though. It's like having your own personal swimming hole to yourself. Very quiet and secluded and worth it once you're there.

Another beauty in the Wilderness area of RMNP in Allenspark, CO.
From the TH you get to see cascades and waterfalls (Calypso and Ouzel). Many people stop at the Ouzel falls and go back. The trail to the lake has a few easy-moderate climbs and then you are suddenly and quickly above tree line and the views are quite spectacular. There are still remnants of the Ouzel fire but new growth is taking shape. The hike to the lake is flat. Absolutely beautiful and well worth the trip back to see the falls if you have not seen this lake. The crowds around the falls are busy but very very light to the lake.

Probably one of the best kept secrets in the park. A true beach in RMNP. You will gain nearly 2000 ft in elevation on the journey up. The route itself was very quiet. There are about 4 campsites and I did run into a good amount of campers on my way down the mountain. There is apparently decent fishing on this hike but I saw many of the streams were closed. Sandbeach Lake was open to fishing though.

While you do not get many views along the hike the Lake is worth the wait and the silence. It is truly spectacular. Bring a jacket as the temp dropped when I got to the lake. Pack a picnic and veg. The link on protrails will describe the surrounding mountains. This is probably my most favorite hike. I think the Wilderness Trail area has some of the most scenic lakes and for the most part this area of the park is pretty quiet if you want to avoid the crowds.
