dominick z reviewed Mount McConnel Trail

Tried to do this hike the morning we left the Mountain Park Rec Area campsite. I'm not sure if it was just us or what but we lost the trail about .5 mile in and got pretty lost. Just had to hike back down towards the campsites. Not as well marked as other trails around here are.

A bit difficult going uphill on the bike unless you're good with super technical / steep climbs. Down hill was a blast tho. Only saw a couple other bikes on the trail, but it was a Monday morning so..

Easy hike, from King Ranger Station. You technically don't have to enter the park / pay entrance fee if you're not trekking further into the park than this. Beautiful scenery, not too crowded. Everything is coated in green.

Did this hike while on vacation in WA. Luckily got to hit it up on a Tuesday morning, it was fairly busy, but not too bad. Some decent inclines, overall not too bad. Excellent views at the look out point (and a lot of chipmunks begging for food :/ )

Mountain biking this on an overcast November day. There was one biker and a family hiking when I got there. An hour later, I was the only one left. Gotta love football season! Looks like they're trying to re-route parts of the trail, especially thru the fields, which is a bit hard to keep track of, but not too bad. There are a few places with tight ruts, but nothing worse than any other DORBA trails in the area. Overall a pretty easy trail with a few tight squeezes and abundant roots. Got here from McKinney in about 20 minutes.

Fairly easy multi-loop trail in Frisco. About 9 miles total (all loops), well maintained by DORBA. Be aware of the direction you're traveling and watch for hikers.

Beware of Mesquite thorns... have had a few flats while riding out here.

Best Mountain Bike Trail in DFW.

Been to them all (or nearly all of them) and this one is by far the best. Quite a bit of undulation for around here and awesome scenery. There were quite a few bikers up there, from what I gather this is typical as it seems the trail is primarily for MB's. Trail is kept up very well, had no problems and a great ride.

Moderate hike to the 12k "peak" of Flattop Mountain. Decent elevation gain and not too difficult of a hike. Plenty of places to stop and check out the scenery and quite a bit of wildlife on the trail. Took about 3.5 hours total travel time (not including 30 min lunch at the top), but we were booking it to beat possible bad weather that afternoon. There is also a guided horse tour that takes this route, so beware of poop.

Decently fast trail with a few technical parts. Trail is separated into 16 loop sections, you can choose to do one or all. All-in-all a fun ride with plenty of shade, just beware the poison ivy.

Awesome trail for mountain biking. Might be a little much for hiking or trail running but I don't do those so not sure there. Plenty of wooded trail, it does dip out into open fields at times. Trail seems to be pretty well maintained by DORBA, was in the process of getting some upgrades while we were there riding. Since I live in McKinney, I'll be hitting this one up regularly.

Excellent trail for mountain biking. Plenty of up and downhill sections. Beware of large rocks / tree roots and tight spaces between trees, but overall fun trail.

This seems to be one of the "must hike" trails while in GTNP. We tent camped at the Jenny Lake campground, which was about 0.2 miles from the trailhead. The trail was well traveled, but the continuation of the trail to Inspiration point was closed for repairs. The elevation change isn't too strenuous, but there are some challenging parts. The view of the falls is spectacular and wildlife was abundant, which was surprising considering the traffic on the trail. You can also access the Hidden Falls / Inspiration Point area via the boat shuttle running across Jenny Lake every few minutes (during season).

This trail is a short loop that includes the "solitary guyser" on the way up to Observation point and is accessible from the boardwalk around the upper guyser basin (Old Faithful area). This provides (I think) a better vantage point to watch Old Faithful. Easy enough hike with a couple hundred feet of elevation change, if that.

We hit this trail because Mount Washburn was closed (05/19) and were looking for something moderately strenuous. The bottom of the trail winds thru the forest floor, occasionally blocked by downed trees. Once the trail splits into the loop, the elevation gain begins. There are a few switchbacks that were sketchy due to snow still on the trail (8-10 inches in some places), but that keeps you on your toes right? Didn't see much wildlife along the trail, but had the bear spray at the ready anyways. At the top, beautiful panoramic views of Yellowstone Lake, the range to the east and the Lake Yellowstone Hotel.
