Derek Gless reviewed Mount Antero Trail

Long hike, not especially difficult though. The vast majority is on a gently graded Jeep trail that cuts back and forth across the slopes. Only got really steep near Point 13,800, and the road doesn't truly end until you're on the last 1/2 mile section of ridge. I stayed as close to the ridge proper as possible on my hike and found a fairly well-defined path of trampled rocks to the summit, with only a few short stretches where it was slightly ambiguous. Overall, not necessarily the most scenic, wilderness-feeling day in the mountains, but glorious hiking nonetheless.

My absolute favorite 14er hike that I've done so far. Beautiful alpine wilderness. Would do this again in a heartbeat.

Did a quick little out-and-back trail on the Meadow trail because I didn't feel like I would have time to summit Bergen Peak. Very serene walk through the trees. Lots of mountain bikers but most of them were very polite and communicative (plus, I never have a problem ducking out of the way for people), one of them even told me to have a great hike. Looking forward to coming back and summiting.

Closer to 14 miles and 5,000 feet of total elevation gain (according to Strava). Really enjoyed this hike though, I just didn't bring nearly enough food or water, and there is very limited sun cover on the more difficult parts of the route (Bear Peak's west ridge and South Boulder Peak). The descent down shadow canyon and subsequent death-march on the Mesa trail back to Chautauqua Park were very painful. It took me almost 8 hours exactly to complete the hike round-trip. Be prepared for this one. Wouldn't do it again but I'm glad I did it.

Beautiful hike! Well marked trail, a variety of different views and terrain. Didn't see a soul the entire time I was out there (for you solitude junkies)

Still awesome. They did an excellent job with repairs, the stairs are intact all the way to the top. No snow either direction.

I have slowly fallen in love with this place over the last 9 months or so. It's a great little walk and has some incredible panoramic views of the mountains.

Awesome hike, and not too crowded!

The first third of the hike is just a straight attack right up to the first ridge, then it levels out for the second third, and the final third gets steep again and has a little light scrambling. Never more difficult than Class 2, and only gets that difficult for short 10-20 foot stretches.

Did this on a cloudy day, but I imagine the views from the top are amazing.

One of my favorite local hikes thus far. Going to have to add it to the regular 14er training rotation.

Very easy, well defined trail, nice views of the suburbs, some mountain views but it was a bit of a hazy day. Probably best to do this early morning or in the evening, there isn't a speck of shade to be found along the way.

Loved this hike but "Hard" is an understatement, there needs to be an "Extreme" rating.

The knife edge isn't that bad. Not bad at all, really, and not the scariest exposure on the route by far. Plenty of hand and foot holds, me and my climbing partner straight blasted across it.

Another reviewer commented about the importance of knowing the route - I second that. Print off the route description from 14ers.com and refer to it often. I forgot my copy and I think we may have gotten off route into some dangerous Class 4 stuff with iffy hand/foot holds and gut-wrenching exposure. Would not recommend that.

Great workout! The steps are easy enough to go back down, so it's easy to get multiple repetitions of the hill done in a relatively short time (as opposed to The Incline, where you need to devote an entire morning). Then, after your last trip up, the hike down the back side of the hill is very relaxing.

Beautiful hike. Didn't do the loop as shown, did the ridge via Spalding and terraced my steps back down. LOVED this hike.

Nice little walk! Decent views of the mountains. Really want to find a way to scramble up that big hill instead of waking around to the top, looks like there's just too much vegetation.
