This was our last hike in the Sedona area and the second of the most fun. The first being Doe Mountain. We hiked from Brins Mesa TH to the Outlook, a total of about 7.5 miles out-and-back with an elevation gain of over 900 ft. The first part of the trail was easy and then become strenuous nearing the mesa top. Once we reach the top, it was another 2.2 miles to Brins Mesa Outlook. We saw very few hikers and none at the Outlook. We had lunch on the Outlook, relaxed and just enjoyed the spectacular views. What a great time!

This was one of the most fun hikes we had in the Sedona area. Spectacular, panoramic views in all directions. From the TH to the top, the trail is short and steep with a lot of switchbacks. The elevation gain is about 450 ft. in 0.7 mile. Doe Mountain is actually a mesa. We spent almost 3.5 hours on top--taking pictures, hiking and bushwacking around the entire perimeter of the mesa. We only saw four other hikers. What a great time!

This hike was different from most trails we've been on in the Sedona area. It reminded us of our hiking trips to the Ozarks and the Appalachians after we got by the first mile of noises and buildings associated with civilization. There were numerous hikers on the trail. About half way, we let two large groups of 15-20 go through. At the end of the canyon there is a large, flat area of red rock to rest and take in the view of back down the canyon.

We chose the Devil's Bridge and Chuckwagon TH at the Mescal Trail parking area on Long Canyon Road for our starting point, rather than the Dry Creek Vista parking area. This trail is a moderate, out-and-back hike of about 4.5 miles. It was a very scenic and enjoyable way to Devil's Bridge. From the Dry Creek Vista parking area, you have to walk down an eroded, dirt road for about a mile to get to Devil's Bridge Trail. When you get close to the bridge, there are some very steep, rocky steps to scramble up. When coming down this area, most found it was easier to go down backwards and use their hands to help hold on. The views from Devil's Bridge are fantastic, so relax and take a lot of pictures. After descending, make sure to hike under the bridge for some other great views.

A great trail! If you can only do one hike in the area, this is it. This 4.5 mile, out-and-back, trail has everything. From the Peralta TH to Fremont Saddle, the elevation gain is about 1360 ft. in 2.25 miles. Take your time and enjoy the spectacular geology, flora and fauna. When you reach Fremont Saddle, you will have fantastic views of Weaver's Needle, a volcanic plug, and the valley and mountains beyond. A great spot for a snack and enjoying the wilderness.

A scenic hike in the McDowell Mountains Sonoran Preserve. A lot of great views. The loop trail leads up to the Gateway Saddle, an elevation gain of about 650 ft., then back down. It is recommended that you do the easy, one half mile Bajada Nature Trail first. It has interpretative signs identifying the Sonoran desert flora and fauna of the area.
