great hike, switch backs up to the waterfalls, perfect view. Probably not easy, closer to moderate but plenty of children we're able to achieve it.

Started the Mt Wilson trail from Sierra Madre at 7:40 am and with a good 45 min checking out the observatory (had a personal guide for a bit) we made it off the hill by 3:15.
It is certainly challenging ascending and long on the descent. Bring a lot of water. I went thru 3 liters. Also some food for the top. You will earn this peak.

Took a break from business trip and checked this trail out. Good scrambling and nice views. Good way to spend a couple hours.

when I lived in Vegas (early 90s) the outskirts of town stopped at Buffalo. now thr subdivisions go all the way up to Red Rock. sad.
the scrambling and exploring of these rocks were my passion. still great but I miss the good old days.

Dave S reviewed Danielson Monument Trail

this is not so much a destination as it is more a resting point before heading up the hidden trail to Boney Peak. you need to hike over 2 ridges to get here and since the fires its mostly barren burned out until you hit the downward slope into the Danielson monument.
if you want to hit Boney Peak find the trail that goes by the chimney and get it on.
    wax on wax off Danielson.

Dave S reviewed Secret Passage to Simi Peak (AKA Rabbit Ridge Trail)

a favorite of mine. gps this one or you will get lost. there are no markers and in some places literally no trail. you will scramble rock faces in several places and for the uninitiated it can be daunting. just continue up and east until you hit simi peak (usgs marker and a journal will confirm you made it to the peak).
be prepared and bring plenty of water and food.

this is a beautiful spot you will share with mountain bikers. the meadows are stunning, green (springtime) and you will have many options. you can take it all the way to the chesboro trail or up to Simi Peak. love this area. its not at all challenging but a wonderful mellow hike.

ive now done this trail a bakers dozen times. its a solid 6 hr out and back with a little rest on the peak. my girlfriend did it in running shoes and peaked... cursing under her breath... but did it.
great training hike and absolutely beautiful at the top.

One of my favorites in the Conejo Valley. Make sure you attempt the Secret Passage which will require some scrambling and actual climbing of rocks. Fun! Great views of the SF Valley up to Santa Barbara oit to Channel Islands. Start at Lang Ranch Oakbrook Trail. Peaceful and challenging.

Dave S reviewed Will Rogers State Park: Inspiration Point Trail

Nice yet highly frequented local trail very easy for the kids. Inspiration Point (anyone remember Happy Days?) Has similar views that Temescal has. Nice backtrails which lead up toward Backbone should you feel adventurous. Bring the kiddos and a sammich.

Decent local fireroad trail with views of the valley and out toward Los Padres NF. People are frequent. Its a nice way to spend a few hours.

    Dave S reviewed Calabasas Peak

Very enjoyable moderate trail. Few people and the views are worthy of harder trails. Once you get up to the fireroad you have many options.. take some time and explore.
