I've hiked thirteen miles of this trail in Greenbrier County, WV. Some of it is beautiful, but it is marred by, by far, the most litter I've ever seen on a hiking trail. I picked up a number of bottles, cans, bags and wrappers over the course of my day's hike, cramming my pockets full until I no longer had any room. It's a shame that so many people have abused such a wonderful natural resource. Crossing the mountain top was mostly a straight walk, their were switchbacks on my way up and my way down again. There aren't very many areas where the trail allows views of the valley below, but what I did see was beautiful. It's a shame that my main memory of this hike is all the litter.

This is a wonderful, tiring hike. The views from the parking area to the Tooth are gorgeous, especially on the AT sections of the trail. The rock climbing is demanding enough to be rewarding, but not overly extreme. I made this hike in January on a very cold morning, and the parking lot was still completely full by the time I got back to my car. I shared every foot of the trail with other hikers, it is surprisingly popular for a trail that really does require hikers to do a little work.

A fun, casual, easy 7-mile walk with lots of changes in the scenery. I walked from Lexington to Buena Vista, traveling along the Maury River for the first half of the trail. At one point you pass under the interstate and then begin coming to a number of gates, as the trail crosses private land. Right of way is granted to trail walkers. On the half of the trail closer to Buena Vista, be prepared to share the trail with lots of cows. They can be intimidating if you haven't spent much time around cows, because they're so large. But you'll find that they're docile and disinterested, and that they'll generally walk off the trail as you get closer to them. If they don't, just walk around them. The farmland and pasture areas that the trail crosses are just as beautiful as the mountain and river areas, just be prepared to step over and around a little manure. OK, a lot of manure. The trail is very popular, and on a warm day you'll be sharing it with a number of running students, older folks, children, dogs, and other animals.

This park is five minutes from my home. It's become my favorite playground. It's beautiful year round, and the trail system is rewarding, fun, and pretty much perfect. I go out for the day, or just to spend a couple of hours, and never get tired of walking these trails. Difficulty ranges from casual and easy to demanding and exhausting, and you can link the trails together in a seemingly endless set of combinations. Living this close to this park is the very best thing about my hometown.

The rock climbing is lots of fun. Get past the boulder field and climb up the ravine to continue on Belfast Trail. You'll meet up with Gunter Ridge Trail and you can take it to the AT or down to the horse trail to make a loop of it. I got thirteen miles and more than six hours of fun out of this trail.

This is a fun hike if you don't mind the power lines you encounter about half way through. Once you get past them the views of the Cove and of Daleville make it worth while. A little bit of light rock climbing adds some variety to the trip. A fun family hike.

Not too hard, but hard enough to feel good and get your heart pumping. And the view from the Knob is just unparalleled. Breathtakingly beautiful.

A beautiful winter hike. Andy Lane Trail is good exercise as you near the AT. Lots of uphill without switchbacks.
