This was an easy hike, almost a walk. Enjoyed the mix of forest and bluffs. The forest section is quiet and peaceful, not heavily trafficked. The bluff section has more foot traffic but the coastal views are amazing, especially on a clear day. There are numerous custom styled benches along the bluffs where you can sit for a bit and just enjoy the views. This is almost the same exact trail as the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve, but has slight variations and seems to be a little shorter. The starting point on this trail also differs and is probably better in terms of the parking situation. This trail starts you off at the bluffs, while the other trail starts you off near the forest.

Really enjoyed this trail. The day we went it didn’t seem like there were much bugs and didn’t notice any lady bugs. Most of the trail was maintained at this time. There were just a few parts that you had to push your way through. Be careful of the poison oak though. Great view of the mountains. It was not heavily trafficked and it was very peaceful. Got to where the stream and campsites were and almost turned around to head back, but decided to go just a little further in, past the campsites. So glad we did. There was the nicest part of the stream pooling up and flowing like a baby waterfall. Most of the trail was pretty easy, just a steady incline going back up from the valley.

This is one of my favorite trails in the area. Went on a clear sunny day, low 70s. The sweeping views of the ocean were breathtaking. You get to take it in for most of the trail. It’s a steady incline all the way to the top. Enjoyed the changing landscapes from open trail to some shaded sections. Almost turned around at the last main ocean vantage point going up to the top...but so glad I didn’t! Some beautiful old trees near the end. Then you’re rewarded with a sweeping view of the mountain range facing opposite the ocean.

Darice Slusser reviewed Salmon Creek Trail to Spruce and Estrella Camps

This was an amazing trail! Lots of different scenery and wild flowers are starting to bloom. However, be aware of poison oak too. We combined it with the Salmon Creek Waterfall trail. Went to the main waterfall first, which was beautiful! We then came back around to start this trail. The first .5 miles are a steady incline that’s a little strenuous, but the remaining parts of the trail to Estrella Camp are mostly a combo of level ground, some downhill, and couple more short uphill climbs. Many parts of this trail are on a narrow pathway/ledge when you get higher up, so watch your footing. At this time there is still the remnants of a large pine tree that fell directly on the main path right before getting to the Spruce Creek Camp. You will have to step through and over a wall of fallen branches and then climb over the large trunk. On the way to Estrella Camp from Spruce Camp, you are parallel to Salmon Creek and can hear the sound of flowing water. Very soothing. We also caught a glimpse of another waterfall through the trees. On the way back the views of the forest and ocean are great! Especially if you’re heading back down around sunset. Overall the hike for us ended up being more like 6.5 miles round trip. We did not camp overnight.

Beautiful waterfall! There is also a cave near it. Some large rocks that you have to climb around to get near the base of the fall, but overall an easy walk to get to. Only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars is because it’s too short to be considered a full hiking experience.

I did this trail on a hot August morning...even at 10am it was still hot...have that water ready. If you are going during the summer months..the earlier the better. Wear good shoes! Sneakers are ok, but make sure they have good grip on the bottom. Parts of this trail are rocky and can get steep and slippery, especially going down. I saw a couple people slip on the way back down. Climb up to the bunker roof. You will get your best picture opportunities there. The 360 degree views of the Ko'olau Mountains and Lanikai are breathtaking. I'm going to have to make this a regular stop on my vacations. It's a great work out and you are well rewarded by the views up top.

Hike up was ok. It was fairly easy, but dry and quite warm. Make sure you have that water...especially during the warmer months. Views going up were pretty nice. I recommend taking the original pathway to the top, which is up the steep steps and spiral staircase, then through the bunker. Once at the top...the views are priceless. Wonderful 360 degree view. We took the alternate pathway back down so we could experience a different view point.

Short hike, but great views of Waimea to Kaena Point. Seeing the Heiau is also a special experience.
