Daniel Foster reviewed Powell Forest Canoe Route

The Powell Forest Canoe Route is an incredible canoeing/portaging experience with fantastic trails and well equipped camp sites. We saw very few people on what we thought would be a busy time of year. It took my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 young boys) 5 days to complete the route and we were alone at all of the sites. Most people start on Lois Lake to avoid a steep climb from Goat Lake to Windsor Lake but we opted to start on Powell Lake to avoid paddling against the wind—a decision that paid off. We also took the non traditional Eastern route through little Horseshoe Lake instead of going through Ireland Lake. I'm giving the route 4 stars because this is not a provincial or federal park so there were other power boats on the lake, many of the camp sites have drive-in access for locals and there's active logging in the area. It wasn't a problem but if you're looking for a very pristine experience then you may want to look elsewhere. The upside, however, is that this route is completely free.
