Dana Cecere reviewed Moores Knob Trail

I wouldn’t exactly say this is “hard”; my 11 and 13 year old kids did it without a problem. Gets the blood flowing and the heart pumping for sure, though. The view at the top is 360° of beauty. Do it! So worth it!!

Beautiful waterfall as a reward for a hike around one of the trails. The waterfall was not on that particular trail, but a little ways down the road. It's an easy, fast hike to get to. Great for families with small children as they can play in the water during warmer weather.

Hiked this trail in August 2012 with my then 6 and 7 year old kids. Nice easy beginner experience with great views for rewards.

Went there in 2011 while on a family reunion in Virginia. Simple trail with lots of steps. The waterfall itself was okay, not very impressive, possibly because it was in the middle of summer. But beautiful nonetheless.

Nice easy trail with a rewarding view of the beautiful Crabtree Falls. We hiked the entire loop; the trail lends itself for lots of activities along the way. There are many little spots to explore and to just sit and relax at. Definitely will be hiking this one again.

Meh. This was a nice short trail we stopped at on our way to Sliding Rock just because. Moore Cove Falls left much to be desired, especially after viewing Looking Glass Falls right before. Nice for exploring and splashing around during warmer weather, I guess. Perfect for beginners and families with small children, though.

Awesome trail; exactly what I want when hiking. It is a bit strenuous going up to the lookout, but my 10 and 12 year old made it no problem. Lots of rocks and roots; definitely want good hiking shoes as that presents lots of opportunities for twisted ankles. The view at the top is amazing and so worth the hike up. Make sure you pack a warmer jacket. The further up you get the colder it gets and it is quite breezy at the top. We got rained on, so we were freezing by the time we got up, which didn't really allow us to enjoy the view as much as we had hoped for.
Heads up! Looking Glass Falls is not along this trail! It is a little further up the road, right on the road, actually.

Most amazing hike! Took a left at the trail head and headed to the waterfall first. It's not much of a fall compared to others in the area, but not bad either. Nice and relaxing. After getting back on the trail we reached the homestead, which was so nice to see. It is at the foot of the mountain. We explored the mountain a bit at the climbing spot that is there. After that the trail became a bit more strenuous, but we were rewarded with the most beautiful views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Especially when we reached the summit. This is one we will do again for sure and I can definitely recommend it.
