A good hike with a tremendous payoff at the end. We did it with our 2 kids (age 10 and 9) and 2 dogs without much of a problem. The trail is VERY popular, and is especially busy. We had to park at the overflow parking area on Rampart Range Road and walk up to the trailhead.

This is a great out and back trail that is well marked and very accessible. The trailhead is at the apex of a hairpin turn on Teller County Road 62, before you reach the Mennonite Camp. There were a total of 6 cars there during our visit and as such, it is certainly not a crowded trail.

There are no markers, or signs indicating the trailhead, but it is the only trail at this location. The trail itself is fairly wide and has some stacked rock trail markers as you ascend to reassure you. As you approach the summit, the trail is narrower and there are a few white markers (tied ribbons) in the trees to keep you on track. A simple scramble gets you to the summit and the TREMENDOUS 360 degree view of the surrounding area.

It took my 6 year old a little under 3 hours to make the ascent, with a few breaks. Quite doable for kids of most ages if you let them go at their pace. He was a bit tired when we completed the trip back to the trailhead, but ready for the next trip. My GPS marked our track at 6.8 miles, out and back.
