Great short hike! All of hike is above treeline with no shade, so be prepared with sunscreen. Road to get there is only suitable for high-clearance 4x4s, although a stock 4Runner or Jeep will work. The route follows the ridgeline up from a saddle to the peak. About half-way through is a part that requires a bit of scrambling.

Fun quick 13er summit! Trail begins at the ridgeline at the end of an old mining road. The road itself is pretty rough, we definitely needed a 4x4 with decent clearance and a low gear range (did it in a stock 1995 Land Cruiser). There were a few people who started farther down the mining road and just hiked it. About halfway up from the start of the ridgeline to the peak there is a traverse that requires a bit of scrambling. However, in good weather this should not be a problem for most people, as the granite rock here naturally forms lots of small steps that make scrambling easy. After the traverse it is an easy walk across a flat(ish) bit followed by a small boulder field.

Nice hike in Trinidad CO. Unique in that there are not nearly as many trails in the area as in the metro areas. Most of the elevation gain is in the first half-mile. I attempted to trail-run this in minimalist shoes, which was difficult, as there are many nugget-sized sharp rocks along the route. It does offer good views over the city of Trinidad and to Fishers's Peak at the top.
