Crystal Talley reviewed Palmetto Trail to Obeservation Point Trail

Checked out this shorter trail of the Dwight D Eisenhower Park today, four months after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and the flooding of San Jacinto River. We found it in good condition to walk through and dry. You can clearly see the debris line in the tree branches even all the months after. I regret not thinking to bring gloves and a bag to remove light trash as we walked the loop.
A good part of this trail is on the road back to the parking and picnic area.

Don't skip this extra chance at seeing more beautiful country! It's worth it and suddenly seemed quiet as the rest of the crowd chose to skip it!

Enjoyed this trail just as the change of color started. A bit tougher than I expected as it does get steep to climb and descend. Even so, it is very doable!

Beautiful trail. It's a bit tougher than I expected but we hiked this one after completing the west loop and the 2 mile loop off that one. Pretty busy, too! And a few primitive camping spots along the way.
According to my Fitbit : 13.5 miles and 101 floors climbed for the entire trail system. *whew!*

It's one of my favorite hiking days and the first good long hike! Odd that I hadn't saved it here.
We parked one vehicle at Kirby TH and hiked from the Turkey Creek TH. We did walk up on some wild hogs this day!

Crystal Talley reviewed Lone Star and North Wilderness Loop Trail

We got 8.42 miles hiking the North Wilderness Loop from Trailhead 3 to 2 and back via the LSHT.
Very narrow trail! Very "snakey" - I mean I fully expected to see many snakes along the way because of the overgrowth and many fallen trees along it. Thankfully did not see one on this beautiful warm day.
Yesterday we hiked the Richard's Loop and found it currently burn cleared. I hope they clear this one soon. Still, we enjoyed it. There are a few difficult places to cross - especially for a short girl like me, lol. But it's doable when dry to getting dry like today.

3/18 They've done a lot of burning in this aka Richard's Loop per the LSHT map. But that's good! And the contrast in color is striking. New spring flowers and grass is vivid against the ashes and black coal along the 6+ mile hike.
Few places to cross carefully - down embankment to sandy creeks and up the other side. Watch for rains to make these near impassable. And for snakes! A 2ft racer crossed the trail ahead of me!
Looking forward to the next loop as we hit the LSHT 2017!

Crystal Talley reviewed Brazos Bend State Park Trail

We parked near the Hale Lake Loop Trail and hiked part of that to get to the Bayou and Sawmill Trails before reaching the Riverview Trail on the way back. So we made a 7.5 mile loop today. Beautiful, clear, wide trails. I don't know how likely you are to see alligators on this side of the park, away from the larger waters. We did not see one nor expect to. We did see so many deer tracks, raccoon prints and wild hog ruts. And walked up on an armadillo! It let us watch it a long while as it ate - pretty neat!
Yes, great trails at Brazos Bend State Park!
