Being able to hike a massive, active volcano overlooking the bay of Naples and the Campania region- was AMAZING.  The views were beautiful and was definitely worth the occasional scattered crowd. Hike is suitable for all levels of experience. There is little to no shade except at the designated posts along the end of the trail.  It can become dangerously windy and COLD (even in the dead of summer) so definitely prepare to climb in layers. Sunscreen and eye protection would be advised. Enjoy a glass of wine at the very top and take in the beauty that is Vesuvius!

This trail(s) is nice and casual. It is easy for beginners and beautiful enough to enjoy for someone more experienced. I normally do not hike with dogs, so this was a great trail to try something new on. it's extremely flat and easy to navigate. At the parking lot they checked to see how much water I had brought. The ranger disclosed that if I had under a certain amount I would not be able to take an animal with me. The hike itself can get extremely hot, there is little to no shade most of the time. We hiked to the waterfall and then headed back. Make sure you bring sunscreen, enough water, and maybe a snack or two for energy.

Hands down 5/5.  This is definitely a moderately difficult hike, you should expect a lot of steep rock and climbing at times.  So long as you stay to the path and follow the rules you will have a blast. The trail is pretty well marked and there are warnings posted around the areas that might prove more tricky.
