Connie Sybert reviewed Porters Creek Trail

I love a hike beside a rushing river! It was a little rainy when we hiked but that was ok. We hiked to the old homestead which was neat to see how they lived back then. We went up to the cemetery and then on up to the waterfall. You can scramble up to the waterfall but watch your footing. We didn't go any farther up, but came back down from there.

Loved this hike, right along the rushing river & many bridges to cross. Some of the trail is not very wide, maybe just 2 people at most. The Arch area is pretty cool for photo ops. Then by the time we got up to the Alum Cave Bluff area, Oh my goodness the views were spectacular! And there is where my daughter was proposed marriage to! Wonderful hike!

It was a nice mix of easy & moderate hike. We completed it in less than 2 hours. Many roots, small rocky trail at some points, nice graduating elevations. Trail was marked well. Too bad there wasn't a great place at the top to view a large part of the lake and/or mountain ridge. But it was nice just the same. They had recently set a fire to burn off the ground cover, so there was a lot of charred trees, so our hike kinda smelled like that.
