Nice short loop, wedged between several residential tract neighborhoods in the Puente Hills. It's pretty heavily traveled, but in spots down in the canyon, you can almost forget there are several major streets about a 10 minute walk away in any given direction. It's was a good walk for the dog.

Chris Leschke reviewed San Jacinto Peak from The Tramway

This is a relatively long and strenuous hike. The trail is uneven and a lot of time is spent scrambling over rocks and boulders. The approach to the peak is also relatively exposed to direct sunlight so take care given the altitude. The scenery was gorgeous and the view from the peak was amazing. My only gripe was how crowded the trail was. We went during the week and were hoping it would be quiet. However there were quite a few large (and consequently loud and obnoxious) groups on the trail that you could hear long before you could see then. We also shared the whole time at the summit with multiple other groups who didn't value silently enjoying the views the same way we did. However, all in all worth it. I'm glad we did it.

This trail connects to several other trails that can be done in various loops depending on how far (or not) you want to go. The trail runs through some open area in the Puente Hills, surrounded on all sides by the urban sprawl of the LA Basin. It's very heavily used, especially on weekends, so don't expect much peace and quiet and there aren't many places to sit and rest, but it's good for a little exercise or a half day outdoors.

We did this hike back to where the falls are. Don't expect much water unless you go after a period of sustained rain. Also, getting back there requires hiking up the stream bed and doing some serious climbing over rocks and boulders in several sections. All in all, it was a pretty cool and at times weird hike. Along the access road there was everything from old abandoned cars, to shacks which appear to be occupied by squatters and even peacocks. Yes, that's right, in one section of the trail there was a group of peafowl roaming around freely. It was definitely an interesting day. My biggest complaint is how heavily used the trail is. We ran into a group of people almost every 5-10 minutes along the way. If I wanted to spend the day with so many people I could have gone to a nearby park.

It's a nice walk through a local regional park. Good for fresh air and light exercise. Usually pretty crowded. There are some nice places to sit and picnic though.

Chris Leschke reviewed Coal Canyon Falls Trail

This is a nice little hike up the middle of Coal Canyon. The final half of this hike is basically trekking up a mostly dry stream bed. We went immediately after a pretty heavy rain storm so towards the back of the canyon, the falls were actually running, but we noticed there was significantly diminished water flow by the time we left, so if you do this hike to see the falls, be sure to go right after it rains. The Canyon itself was surprisingly quiet and peaceful, especially so when you consider it's proximity to a major freeway.

Chris Leschke reviewed Coal Canyon - Santa Ana River, Coal Canyon Trails

After you get to the trail head, by way of the Santa Ana River bike trail, this is a really cool outing. There are loads of different tracks and access roads in the back country that can take you to quite a few different places. We went up to Sierra Peak on this occasion, but the whole area is pretty fun to explore. The trail doesn't get very heavy use either and it's kind of peaceful not having to deal with tons of people.

This is a short little trail through Laguna Lake Park in Fullerton. The park contains a small, man made lake. Use is pretty heavy. The trail can be done as part of the longer Fullerton loop.
