Love running on this stretch , have seen an owl twice right around the river bend in generally the same spot .

Tough trail with killer views , hiked up old rag after from the bridle trail and this one is tougher . Lots of crunchy leaves so bring poles ! Make sure to check out the trails near and at the top with some good view points .

Currently trail head off Vaughn Summit has a sign stating trail is closed as of 10-2 and has caution tape going across . Maybe due to hunting season? Makes it sort of forbidden fruit .

Clay Jackson reviewed Buzzard Hill Via Appalachian Trail

The milage here is actually incorrect it's like an out and back x 2. The waterfall is pretty cool but you could miss it if you don't look around . It was super foggy so I'm sure that plays into it . If you want some serious leg work go down the other side of buzzard hill and go to the next climb and back . Pretty climby sobo on buzzard hill. I dig the area though and will try it again .

Clay Jackson reviewed White Oak Canyon and Cedar Run Trails

Hiked from the trailhead on cedar run to skyline and back today . Pretty hard trail but man the views and water features are amazing !!! Rocky and lots of up. Was going to go for hawksbill but ran out of time and it was extremely cold on skyline . The decent was pretty technical and snow and ice added a layer of wet complexity . Awesome place though !!!

Clay Jackson reviewed Appalachian Trail: Keys Gap to Harpers Ferry

Went from keys gap to the 340 bridge in Harper's ferry and back . Overall a pretty mellow trail but I will note it's very rocky and the Loudoun heights climb is pretty strong especially when muddy . Wet and muddy today so the rocks were slippery but still a great time. Not to many views but a few cool campsites and some nice wildlife sightings . I ran some and hiked some to make sure I got back before dark . Trail is getting dark about 430 or so and is a little creepy lol

Clay Jackson reviewed Old Rag Mountain via Weakley Hollow Fire Road

A pretty awesome route !! Not easy and fairly daunting to have the summit on the horizon the entire time . Didn't see much wildlife but I'm sure it's out there . The summit is like another world and I really dug being able to get out of the cold at birds nest #1 . Views for days at the top and well worth the effort !

Clay Jackson reviewed Appalachian Trail: Sloan Creek to Compton Gap

I did out and back from 522 to comptons gap , aside from the cold there is a whole lot of elevation including lots of switch backs . Not sure who called this trail easy but I would rank it more on the moderate side and if you do out and back the last ascent is pretty brutal . Once you get to the fire road in the park I would say that is easy and not steep . The rocks at the top before you get into the park is pretty awesome ! Pretty bad ass section of the AT and I would recommend it if you like the elevation .
