Great day hike. Trailrunners might enjoy this one. Steady climb to middle lakes and then trail begins to ascend to upper crater lakes. Follow cairns when you get to the rocky areas. You will have to do a little scrambling to get to upper lakes, but not difficult. Our 10 month old Border had no problems with this hike and the small streams cooled his paws! Good calorie burn at 1450 for 5"11 162# female.

Great hike with water crossings, view of Chambers lake on way up. Can be accessed from hwy14 in upper Poudre Canyon. Went on Labor day but didn't feel that busy. Good dog hike, but keep them on the leash even though this trail is in a wilderness area. Good calorie burn...1600 out and back for 5'11" female at 160#.

Great hike that covers several different environments. A moose was seen swimming on 8.13.12. First time to see one in the two years I've been hiking this trail.

Short hike to lake on path/service/logging trail? Great lake for fly fishing but not catching. Incline to lake.

Great day on the mountain. Used the third trailhead for Crosier from "downtown" Glen Haven. The change in scenery is great from this trailhead as well as the views. If you hike for exercise... I am 5'11" and 166# and I burned 1000 from trailhead to the summit and 605 on the way down. Great day hike and beautiful views of Long's Peak with Estes Park down below. BTW...my 6 month old border collie, Duncan, did just fine on this hike. It took me 1.5 hours to the 1/2 mile sign to the summit and another 20 minutes to get to the summit. The last 1/2 mile to the summit will be the most challenging due to the incline but the view from the top is so worth it!

Good hike and calorie burn. Ample water on this trip for dogs to cool paws! Evidence of animal kill cannot confirm if wildcat. Wildflowers are emerging on this trip. Hiked with dog and reached dirt road in 1.5 hours. There are a couple of boulders to sit on, but the area at turn around is not that scenic! There is an area that may be better suited for a relaxing lunch just before you reach the turn around. I'm 5'11" and 167# and burned 1200 for the entire out and back trip. Return trip was about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Getting old! Depending on fitness level, this hike starts easy and becomes slightly moderate as you get closer to the the turn around. Lots of sun and shade for summer hiking.

Great day hike and calorie burn. Once you get off Blue Bell Road, which was lined with wildflowers and wild peas, the hike is pretty lush and shady. The shade was a welcome relief since it was in the high 90's and an elevation gain of 1205 feet! There are great side views of the flat iron on the way up to Sentinel Pass. Once you get to the Pass, you will descend and then start another stair climb to the base of the arch. It is totally worth the view of Boulder and beyond.

From trailhead, the first 1/2 mile is a little steep but the hundreds of columbines keep you moving! Once you get past there, the view of Mummy Ridge is great. You will go through several meadows full of wild flowers! We stopped just before the footbridge at 5+ miles because heavy thunderstorms were moving in (around 1:30pm). If you are into the possible calorie burn, I hit 1221 for a three hour hike (5'10", 172 lbs.). May seem a little wierd, but I like hiking not only for the scenery, but for the calorie burn!

Great hike especially if you head in from the Finch trailhead. Until you reach Calypso Cascades, you are pretty much alone. SWEET! If you come up from the Finch TH, at confusion junction, take the traill leading to Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls. Have been there three times, this one for the Spring run off. There is a small trail from the base of Ouzel that leads to the top of the falls. Be careful, there is still snow in this area. The run off was spectacular! I love this area of Colorado!

This is a good hike if you don't have time to hike all day. Taking the North Boundry Trail, the first 3/4-1 mile is uphill and the view at the top is scenic. On the back side, there were still small pockets of snow/ice on an 80 degree day. Yaktrax were sufficient. After crossing the footbridge, found a fresh mountain lion kill. A small elk had been killed within the last day or two. The flowers were just starting to bloom in this area which otherwise was pretty dry from winter. The run off was just beginning and the falls were nice for a quick snack. Small trout were present as well. In and back in 2 1/2 hours including lunch/snack break. Parking is limited and strictly enforced. We arrived at 11:00am on a Sunday and there were 5 available.

This time we took the Finch Lake Trailhead in the Wild Basin Area. The road to the Basin Trailhead was closed for the last mile, but with Yaktraks it was an easy walk to the Finch TH. It took us about an hour to manage the steep climb to the first switchback. It was not bad, but we took the first few hundred feet with the yaktrax and then stopped to switch to the snowshoes. The trail was packed down, but off each side, the Leki's would sink a good foot in the soft snow. We hiked in for two hours and then turned back due to planned timeline. Great day for snowshoeing!

It was great to hike this since i can see it from my home in Loveland! The hike is great exercise. Once past treeline, it is all about the destination. If you are headed to Chasm lake, don't be fooled by the emerald green lake at the base (Peacock). Keep hiking toward the ranger hut which is past the cascade on the other side of scree field. Once past the ranger hut, look for cairns to help guide you to the rock scramble that goes up and over to reveal Chasm lake. The cairns can even be hard to find if it has started to snow as it did the day we hiked. The view of the peak is incredible in this area especially when you find the lake. Literally a reflective pool at the base of the rocky peak. The hike out was in the snow, but not so much that we had to put on additional gear. Saw some interesting birds that were white and sand colored; wondering what they were! If you are into a scenic hike, this is good upto treeline. After that, the rocky peak is enough to keep you motivated!

This was a nice hike. We approached from the Allenspark trailhead so we would have a longer hike. We also hiked past the cascade and headed for the falls. The hike gets busy at that end because it is closer to trailheads that go directly to the falls. Upto the cascade was very quiet and the trail was all ours! The aspens and the view of Mt. Meeker was beautiful.
