I ran this trail yesterday. I started just off of 819 and parked in a church parking lot. I now see that I should have used the Slickville VFD trail parking. Heading East I ran to Saltsburg and picked up the West Penn trail. This is a great rail-to-trail for running or biking. The trail is in great shape. No real hills to speak of in this section. Maybe a long 1% grade which really feels like a flat run. Saw lots of deer. Nice bridge crossing at Saltsburg. For this San Diegan desert dweller, it was scenic. For locals, I can see how a gently winding trail through the woods can be same-old... Made me melancholy growing up in PA.

Very easy out and back. Nice hike for a family. Trail is heavily used.

Hiked the first three miles with my wife, we took the lower fork. The trail is well marked and in excellent condition. At 3/4 mile there is nice river access in a scenic canyon. This first part of the trail appears to be heavily used. This is a great place to bring the young family. Further on there are several good fly fishing spots. Easy out and back hike or straight through.

Hiked this with my family today. We are from San Diego so we felt the altitude. We agree with the moderate rating. Falls were flowing and worth the hike for us. Beautiful Colorado scenery of forest, meadows, streams, and the falls.

I used to live across the street from this park and ran the trails quite often. It is a great place to run, walk, or hike the well groomed trails. There are 3 main ponds in the park and kids enjoy fishing them, especially the North pond near the entrance on Hwy 76. There are ducks and geese at the picnic area year around. Camping in the park is peaceful. There are a couple short less used trails that give you the feeling of being out there, except for road noise.

Park is good for all ages and skills. Horses are in the East side of the park. As others have mentioned, you can walk, run, or ride under Hwy 76 and turning left you can hook up with the San Luis Rey bike trail for a 9 mile trek to the beach at Oceanside harbor. You'll never have to cross a road as underpasses are provided.

Bird watchers are often in the park during early morning hours and geocaching is quite popular in the park. We always felt safe turning our kids loose in the park once they were old enough to remember their way around.

Great county park that won't disappoint.
