Absolutely loved this trail. There’s so much to see around every corner. The most difficult part was the switchbacks at the start, which finish off whatever you have left by the end. The only complaint was the amount of horse droppings throughout the entire trail. The smell was horrid. They should definitely consider making this a walking trail only- I can’t imagine how those horses feel carrying lazy people throughout that canyon in the heat every day.

Got the permit the day of. Was really disappointed in this hike after reading all of the outstanding reviews for weeks. I did this hike after visiting Zion and Bryce, so I am assuming that this played into my disappointment. The trail markers are also few and far between... most of the orientation is stressing about not harming the areas off of the trail, but I found this odd considering the minimal effort to guide hikers to stay on the correct paths. The hike isn’t difficult, but the heat definitely was an added component. Unfortunately I just wasn’t impressed and I definitely wouldn’t do this hike again.

This was an amazing payoff. This trail is in no way ‘moderate’ for anyone, contrary to the previous review. Everything up until the chains could be considered moderate for those who are fit, but I don’t think the chains portion would be considered moderate by anyone with a normal-sized ego. One slip of your grip on the chain could result in an unplanned dive off the edge.

We had originally planned to start at 6:00am based on previous reviews, but found ourselves sleeping in and hitting the trail at 10:00am on a Sunday. I was surprised because I really didn’t feel that there was a huge crowd hiking up the trail, contrary to what others said would be the case. You had to wait every now and then on certain segments of the chains for someone to come through, but that should be expected no matter what the size of the crowd. I wouldn’t stress arriving as early, though Saturday’s could be a different story.

In my opinion, it seemed like most people ended their hike just before the chain segment started, so the upper portion was not busy whatsoever. Just take your time and be respectful to others. This is definitely a dangerous hike that is worth it in the end.
