This is actually two trails combined. The Oirase Gorge and the one to the mountain. The Oirase Gorge trail starts at the museum an ends at Lake Towada. It is 14km (8.7 miles). If you have the time, you can hike back, but I took the bus to make it before the sun set. I had a late start.

There are plenty great Onsens in the area to relax afterwards.

This is a great trail for everyone! There are MANY scenic spots with tables. You can take the bus to any part of the trail. The Ishigedo stop has food and bathrooms. It’s a great place to start if you want a shorter hike. The Yekayama is a few kilometers away to keep it short and family friendly.

Trail is Dog friendly. The facilities are not.

Great every season! Summer is cool in the shade and green. Fall is full of colors. Winter is white and beautiful with the frozen falls. If you’re into photography this is the place! Many places to turn off and park at the spots you want.

Plenty of hotels or places to stay, if needed. Everyone was very helpful to the foreigner as well.

I suspect the trail is always a bit wet, so extra bit of mud. But nothing too challenging.

Great for everyone! Very scenic. Good with small children, novice, and even none active people. Parking lot is small but free. Good to go on a week day.

Not actually “Hiking” but definitely a great time outdoors. No special gear required, just active ware.

Very easy! Great for everyone, even small kids, novice, and just “indoor people”. No dogs. Good views; mountains and lakes.

Great for kids and visiting families! Immersive scenery and tantalizing atmosphere. Easy for non-active people and great for an active person to trail run and exercise.
